Used noise cancel #11, audio gain = 30 with the 18”x15” SEF coil, and the Pro coil. Sensitivity level varied depending on coil.

In the 4 days of detecting, the rocky area produced a 1911 barber dime, a 1901 Indian head penny, and a corroded wheat penny.

A stripped area on the beach gave up only 1 gold ring with a break in the back. Using the Procoil with manual sensitivity = 26, the gold ring made double hits and read 35-01. With the ring flat on the sand, was able to raise the coil up to around 4” above the ring and still detect it, as long as the face of the ring was to the left or right. With the ring face north or south, the signal was very weak.

Used the 18”x15” SEF coil “in the pan”. Digging most non-ferrous signals, dug a fishing weight signal that turned out to be my 1st 3 ring minie ball. Unfortunately, it is not very distinguishable, whatever it impacted with, has greatly distorted it. Can make out the 3 rings, and the rifling marks at the rings. It weights 30.65g, about .35g less than a troy ounce.

ID = inner diameter (in millimeters)
Procoil auto-sensitivity = 16
Rings air-tested with ring parallel to coil, unless otherwise noted

Row Col carat ID grams depth FE-CO max depth description
         10k 16 .99 1” 13-01 1.5” ring parallel with coil, split open
3” 13-01 5” ring parallel with coil, split closed
1.5” 13-01 2.5” ring face parallel with coil

Here are the coins and other finds.

Here are photos of the 3 ringer minie ball. The bottom photo are the 3 oldest bullets to date.

With a 4" maximum range on that broken gold ring...... that's very good. The dime appears to be "D" (( Denver )).

Some nice finds especially on the gold ring as broken rings are tough to detect and if intact would be much easier....

With manual sensitivity =26, the location of the ring face was very important. While sweeping left to right and back to left, if the face of the ring was facing left or right, got a good signal. But if the face of the ring was facing north or south, got a weak, broken signal.

Sweep direction would appear to determine if a broken ring with a face might be detectable or not, if lying flat a few inches deep in the ground, at least with the E-trac.
