Is the UTube the new PT Barnum?

What are your thoughts? Certainly the "Greatest Show on Earth" . Filled with nonsense, creative promotional people, and some really good information.

Good topic. Making videos on public property doesn't seem to be a good idea to me. They have a right to do so. The less attention to metal detecting in public places is best for the hobby, but maybe not best for the sport or promotion of people and/or products.

I don't think that,for the most part, the people making the videos are concerned about keeping a low profile to help assure public property is available in the future.


However,if they are going to do it,they need to bring a little more pizzazz to the tube. As I mentioned earlier,no future star will be digging their own holes. That is a job for the claddy. The detectorists job will be to swing the machine and adjust settings, alert to targets but only pinpoint to a certain degree. The claddy will take over from there and will also be responsible for returning the ground to it's original condition. There will be a yearly competition among the claddies ,(such as the pit crew in Nascar ), to see who is the best at turf refurbishment ( to use a term that better suits the sport. ) Each star will also have their own camera-person.

Make-up and proper clothing attire will have to be addressed better for the male detectorists. The female detectorists look good regardless of what they are wearing or forgot to put on.

Promotion of products is to be more of a priority with various sponsors vying for the same space on the detectorists. Diggin Britt will have more valuable space available than Aquachigger. Their claddies will need to be promoters and will have to conduct themselves with dignity. ( no butt-cracks ) The bigger the claddy, the more space available so a healthy diet will not be required but they should keep their hair combed.

It will be the camera-person's responsibilty to zoom in on footwear, logos and assets ,as mentioned earlier here.

Once a detectorist becomes famous ( determined by sponsors ) they will need to stay off of venues other than their youtube channel except to promote themselves or a product. Forums will each sponsor a star. This will bring more attention to the forum and should be helpful in regards to forum behavior. Forum members will comment and share their opinion on how well their star performed. That will be detrimental to forum behavior but necessary to keep their star in check.
