Apple I phone users (looks like you've been had)

Check out this story.
Apple busted big time.

And by a 17 year old Tennessean.

Total rubbish – shows you understand nothing about the matter.

Apple screwed up… They didn’t tell everybody that they were doing owners of older phones a favor - modifying the software so that the batteries wouldn’t die suddenly - and instead would have peak CPU activity is limited - to avoid sudden crashes in the power furnished by older and partially depleted lithium batteries .

Of course if you were really interested you could’ve easily found out all this information by little bit of googling - but no – you went for the headliner - you do that a lot - maybe that’s one of the reasons why some people would like to see you go away.

Anyone who would like a little bit broader perspective on it could look in the following places - where there were actually people know something about the matter – not Apple fanboys, but thoughtful folks actually understand a lot about this crap.

[vector.libsyn.com]

Sadly, a typical example of stirring the @#$%& about something which – if you know something about it – you should know better – and, you probably know nothing about it.

This story just broke also on world news ABC.
In addition to my local news out of Nashville.

We'll see what happens.

I don't think a lot of folks realized.
And it seems folks selling phones weren't volunteering info.

As far as your opinion of me.
I couldn't care less.

Just sharing info.
Some folks may indeed find this info helpful, since some folks do do video and take pics while detecting.

Cheers.

My understanding of the story is exactly how lytle78 framed it; the phones are being throttled due to wear on the battery. I think the narrative others are trying to push is that this is part of Apple's "force obsolescence" plan for older phones. That may still be the case, but this story is very clearly being blown out of proportion.

Amazing Kemper.

You obviously – In fact know nothing about it. Yet you bring it up here in a metal detecting Forum where most of the participants don’t actually give a crap about what apple was doing with their iPhones – but you bring it up just to stir up the @#$%&.

Here I thought you were trying to actually participate as a useful member in the metal detecting forum.

Clearly, I should have known better.

Apparently it wasn't a big selling point to tell the buyers about building in software that throttled back the speed as the battery gets weaker or older. I just checked, battery replacement is $89 dollars at a Apple store. Will the software automatically change back to fast or would you be forced to live with the slower speed?

Crap!

My profoundest apologies, Kemper, you have, as I had observed, been pretty much behaving yourself!

I was confused by the habit you, and some others have - of changing your “porn names” to suit the seasons.

It was the performer formerly known as “thsharpshooter” who made a big deal of leaving us forever - and who came back as “sod-buster” who I should have addressed.

Again, I apologize - but my comments stand.

‘Sod-buster” you have a habit of finding - like a pack rat, shiny objects and waiving them for our view.

Some of your gleanings are interesting and useful. This wasn’t - IMHO

Feel free to disagree - you may do so pubically.

And as for Kemper - as long as you wish to contribute to discussion which interest detectorists ....

No shares currently. I did make a few bucks after the iPad was announced - bought - then sold.

There is, in fact, no gold in Gold Canyon - in spite of the fact that we have a great view of the Superstition Mountains - where the Dutchman supppsedly had his gold.

The post about Apple that I complained about was foolish. I then posted something to put it into a more factual frame.

To my shame, I accused Kemper of posting it, when it was - instead - another one of the forum members who shifts names with the season. A mistake for which I apologize.

As far as saying that the Post was crap...I stand by that. Nothing to do with why we come here, and not fact based - IMHO.

I've been known to contribute to/start discussions that are metal detecting related. The interest of the detectorists would best be left up to them without influence. smiling smiley

Here’s the latest version of the young Tenn. resident who first posted it.

[vector.libsyn.com]

It’s clear that the fix for an aging battery is battery replacement - surprise.

Apple screwed up. They should have told everyone how thy planned to maximize the user experience for folks who had phones with aging batteries. bad.

Thanks to whoever sod-buster is for letting the few of us who have older iPhones know about this urgent metal detector problem.....

Meanwhile - what have you found lately?

Mr Lylte
You seem to be quite the biased and partial person.

You want to complain about my post,,seems regularly.

Just what does
Mechanics loom
Bit coin
Investing in Silver
Etc
Etc
What do these have to do with detecting?
Did you go squalling in these threads.

I didn't.
I even notice the owner of the forum posted in at least one of them.

I don't read what doesn't interest me.
I have no automatic touch pad on my iPad or one of those auto clicking mice on my computer.

My forum name, I have explained here.
I have only had 2 names.
And have not used the first one since I posted what I did you referred to above.

Some folks on this forum have had multiple forum names, again did you squeal to or about them.
Alpha Goat is one such person.

Ok.

The apple stuff is still crap - starting with your headline.

“Apple iPhone owners - looks like you’ve been had”

That’s is crap. You posted it, and it is crap.

That’s what I objected to.

I only raised the issue of your “multiple forum identity issue” to try and minimize my guilt for having wrongfully accused another “multiple identity” character - namely Kemper.

In Kemper’s defense - and in my own - I have previously explained how it happens that I - Rick Kempf - Post under a “forum name “Lytle 78.”

I’m done - if you wish to add something to this thread - I’m sure you will.

Meanwhile maybe somebody wants to talk about metal detecting.

Shoveler....

Your prediction about the young lad from TN might turn out to be true.

Apple is not holy. They are not even always great.

Like other businesses, they tell us what they want us to know or what regulations regarding public ally held companies require them to disclose.

When they do so, they pit their name on it. I’m generally in favor of that. Of you want to be taken seriously about your thoughts or opinions, be willing to label them with firm ID.

I understand that the history and “culture” of online forums allows the use of “handles”. Heck, I started out with one, but later decided to put my real name down as well. No disrespect to anyone who chooses to maintain their “anonymity” - but it would probably be a good thing to keep with the one you started with - so we know who is out there. You have done so, others - not so much.

Wish I had kept my Apple stock!

YES ! Please.

For the most part, I don't read the OTHER posts that have nothing to do with Metal Detecting. However, it is disconcerting when I bring up DANKOWSKI DETECTORS and have difficulty finding A METAL DETECTING RELATED POST on the first page due to the piles of $@#$#%$ that have been dumped there by individuals with seemingly nothing better to do but generate posts.

It feels like some of you are throwing handfuls of rusty nails all over an area while I'm detecting.

A lot is changing ........ i noticed AT&T now has unlimited data at a reasonable new price....... well sort of.... until you reach a certain gigabite then they reduce your speed/streaming ability. Even internet providers...... you have to watch them and test your speed now days...... or even the no. of people who can use it at once. All the discussion of net neutrality.... limited access.... and thing they can do now days during down loads that we just dont know. Makes you wonder ...... detectors who actually use the internet connections........ could it be a new way to reduce the machines ability forcing you to buy new? Its kind of leaving us old f*rts who are dirt dumb paying for more and getting less.

There are 2 solutions to addressing the lack of metal detecting related posts -

Option 1 - Make a metal detecting related post
Option 2 - Complain about the lack of metal detecting related posts

Option 2 would be a metal detecting related post ,although it limits and defines more clearly an option, than Option 1 does. Technically, I would say that you have chosen Option 1 and Option 2 and therefore, are not part of the problem. winking smiley

Your unnecessarily hostile reply to a simple post brought attention to his post. Don't know what you're so angry about. A simple "what does this have to do with detecting?" instead of the personal attacks would have shown some class.

Oh, My newish iPhone 6 hasn't been slowed down since it's only 2 months old. Apparently it's a big deal to some folks as lawsuits have been filed against Apple.

I will just stick to My Blue collar LG G4.
It can do everything the fancy Apple and Samsung can do.
Re: Apple I phone users (looks like you've been had)
December 23, 2017 08:15PM
My post was indeed unnecessarily hostile.

I should have simply furnished evidence that the Subject line was rubbish and then posted evidence as to why that's true.

My bad. The funny thing is that with all the name switching around here I thought it was Kemper who posted it and he was being bad again. Wasn't hi of course and I apologized to him in a previous post.

Apparently there are a couple of things going on. The peak CPU speed throttling to save sudden crash of a weakened battery dying should have been described when it was implemented. There also seems to be an issue in iOs 11 causing some older phones to need to be backed-up and restored.
