CZ6A has 5 pin metal connectors and the 1/4" phone jack was installed in the control box, CZ6 had plastic 4 pin connectors . As far as I know this is the only difference.

So, the coils are not interchangable and the CZ 6 does not have a phone jack, correct?

Another difference that I recall was that the CZ6 had no speaker. This was to make it water resistant. An optional speaker could be had that clipped on the top of the unit and plugged into the waterproof earphone connection. This was one fine detector when it came out. The CZ6A had a speaker built in and a standard 1/4' earphone plug.

I am pretty sure both the 6 and 6a have no speaker.. The 6 did have problems with the pigtail that was used from what I have read. Again I think no speaker on either detector. Correct me if I am wrong...thanks

Now that you mention it, I'm thinking the CZ5 was the first CZ to have an internal speaker.

CZ-6a (box) and coils can be updated by changing connectors to typical for all the rest of CZ's family: by SWITCHCRAFTt. Just some soldering and fixing.

Some time ago i bought those:
Slim-line series connectors:
1. MALE Cord plug with coupler ring: SL40M405M (with strain relief SL05);----------that one on the coil cable
And one of those for the box (i do not remember which one):
2. Female Receptacle (Rear panel mount) SL175F (complete with nuts & washers);
3. Female Receptacle (Front panel mount) SL185F (complete with nuts & washers);
I hope it helps. Good luck!

Does anyone know if First Tex still offer the Conversion from a 6 to a 6A? (plug-switch)?..I've come to the conclusion that if I want to use a 10.5 in coil that I'm going to have to convert..Cant seem to locate a "small-plug" big coil for my 6......
