NasaTom.......subject: landing on a comet?

NasaTom, I thoroughly apologize that this is an OFF TOPIC subject. But YOU were the first person that I thought of when I saw this mornings headlines that a comet was about to be landed on by a 220 pound Lander named Philae. While a member of the press was questioning Joel Parker, he discussed the engineering aspects of landing on a comet....given its low gravity, revolutiion around the sun, etc etc.
I could have sent this to you via a Private Message but I thought that several here might be intrigued as I about this. If this topic is out of bounds, please delete. I am just VERY intrigued, that's all. Thanks. Kevin Blankenship

Kevin....comets help scientists discover things from the past that helped shape our solar system. Metal detectors help metal detectorists dig up things from the past that helped shape our civilization. Comets and metal detectors can be viewed as 'time machines'

Very related topics if you think about it, and glad you posted about the comet.

Plus, those comets are full of lots of cool metal composites !

Pretty sure when they release the pictures....will be a few nicely cleaned up holes...Keith Southern has already been there and gotten the relics.

We have some VERY bright humans .... scientists..... on this planet; yet, I still retain some fundamental questions regarding landing on a comet. Hitting a moving target has become quite easy; yet, to land on a target (that is moving quite fast)...... will require a lot of energy (and math)!!

Ah...but the question remains. What detector did he use !!!!

I have some "fears" about landing a man made machine on a comet!

HOPEFULLY it doesn't cause the comet to shift orbit/change course and start heading towards the earth at 200,000 miles per hr only to smash head on into us and cause mass extinction!

No doubt the first target the Philae lander uncovers will be a pulltab.

It is some very interesting stuff. It was the first news bit that showed up on my ATT Home Page this morning. i could scarely believe what I was reading!!! We've come along way for sure.
Incidentally....and equally (to me) important is I RECEIVED MY XP DEUS TODAY!!!!!!! Deer hunting for a couple of COLD hours in the morning. Go home. Hot chocolate. Give momma her bath and wash her hair. And when she is properly and fully settled in..........TO THE YARD where I dug the gold dollar!!!! My G2 will arrive at Fisher Repair Labs tomorrow. Felix fixed me up with an RA number. I'll soon have TWO great unmaskers.
Good night my FRIENDS!!!!

It doesn't sit well with me that the U.S. isn't involved. Our country has taken a big giant sedative in 08....what a major setback.

Made in the image of the most high God, mankind is capable of amazing feats. Some would argue that humanity has been under attack for decades through the food (GMO, etc.), water (fluorosilicic acid), vaccines, television, etc., and yet we are still capable of remarkable achievements.

Thank you Kevin for starting this thread,
Duke
