Check out Appendix #5, it gives you a good idea at what their planning. I wonder how or if these new junk coins will work w the detectors?

Np disrespect to Abe, but the penny should have been discontinued some 20 years ago. It serves no purpose anymore and cost too much to produce.

Yes , like morality and ethics , it has been debased by the government to the point that people no longer see the need for it.

I don't dig morality and ethics on the beach. But I sure dig enough half eaten Zincolns to make me curse the day they were made. I am at the point that I would rather dig a pull tab.

Yep, it's says so in the conclusions segment of the report:

"1. There are no alternative metal compositions that reduce the manufacturing unit cost of the penny
below its face value."

The one cent coin must go.

Also, I thought it was interesting that they explored the use of bi-metalic coins, like the Euros I keep finding in our parks. They even suggested using uncirculated penny blanks for the center of those coins.
