Daylight visibility of most phone screens is pretty poor

Straight shaft and skinny handle likely poor ergonomics

Bluetooth connectivity between detector unit (in coil) and phone will introduce lag in target response

I had mentioned this awhile back on one of the forums, that a cell phone app would be made and coils would connect via wireless.

It's just the evolution of how things work. Is it better ? Maybe not now, but as things continue to evolve, it could be as improvements continue.

Think of all the people with cell phones out there that don't detect but may want to at an affordable price.

Download an app, buy a coil and shaft fairly cheap....detect.

Then again, the way some people are glued to their cell phones, it's a wonder they have time for anything else !

Yes, it seems like this would be the natural evolution of phone/app tech. therover61 is right about it just being the start and improvement coming fast as the app evolved. A smart phone with a good app like Gaia has totally replaced hand held GPS and it just keeps getting better as the app evolves. It will be interesting to see where this goes.

Awwww....... but all good ideas starts in someones garage so to speak. Never though ....... wireless, USB use, or reduced size and price either. Things seem to be taking off for the hobby IMO. I like it........ think outside the box and who knows what kind of mouse trap we might get. It all has to start with an idea.

XP have the patent on wireless coils so they will have to go the Bluetooth way

Bluetooth AptX LL would work just fine. I can see my iPhone just fine outside.

This is something we discussed here years ago, and here it is. Sure the 1.0 unit may not tick all your checkboxes, but neither did detectors 20+ years ago (although many of you are probably still using them )

It’s a start, it’ll be interesting to see how it evolves.
