Good observation on the Recovery Speed Calabash.
5 is my default and adjust up or down from there depending on conditions.
Rarely drop below 5 much anymore. Never below 4 and never above 7

I’m killing it with my big coil on my first two hunts.
Hits hard on the deep stuff.

Bryan,
Are you seeing different values for GB over the same ground comparing the stock coil and the bigger coil???

I saw where someone posted ...... GB differences on each recovery speed when using auto GB. Seems the lower the recovery the larger the digit differences....... as much as 20 digits between 3 and 6. Recovery does smooth the chatter........ so are you using it in lieu of reducing sensitivity? Either way could you loose depth/sensitivity to targets? How does using the default GB change things? If you use manual GB......should you then re-GB each time you change sensitivity and recovery speed?

I haven’t noticed any large difference..
I have not done a side by side test on GB Values but the big coil was running within
the same couple point average that park usually runs at which is about 7.
I did run into a part of the park that was -1.

Dewcon4414. My ground balance does not change with different Recovery Speed that I have ever seen.
I manually Ground Ballance my Detector.
No, I am not using Recovery Speed to smooth chatter. I use it for trash density.

I haven't found a need to adjust recovery speed on the 11" coil. What's the rule of thumb on adjusting the recovery speed (for the 15")?

I don’t know that there is a “rule of thumb” but Calabash noticed the 15” coil hit much harder when on RS 5.
5 is where I like to run when I can, but will adjust when needed.

If you are running full tones with no or very little discrimination, you will hear when you coil starts getting overwhelmed with
targets or ground. I use those indicators to adjust my speed and ground balance.

The stock 11” coil can put up with a high amount of targets for its size.
The 15” coil, not nearly so.

Thanks Bryan, appreciate the explanation. I typically do run wide open, with 50 tones. I think I know exactly what you mean by overwhelmed with targets. I have heard once or twice in an area where it just seemed to smear the audio all together as there were a lot of targets, that would probably be a good spot to try adjusting the recovery.
