iirc, he was also a big proponent of dowsing and handed out bans to those who made fun of him for it.
itll be interesting to see how he acts towards kc now that they sold the business to a investment fund and the ex-owners/his bud have no financial interest there.

The Whites' Sub-forums have been gone for several weeks now. Why? Whites' decided NOT to sponsor their Forum Pages any longer.

Why not sponsor their sub-forums any longer? I do not know that answer. And, I do not know Whites' ownership or people in the marketing department. I CAN SPECULATE. A few of the sub-forums were seeing little to no traffic for many months. Not many positive posts on the ones that were seeing traffic. Plenty of Whites' bashing going on over them not keeping up with the Jones'. From the marketing stand point I am guessing that they weren't getting a good return on advertising investment dollars.

1st amendment only applies t retribution by gov't. It states that you are free to criticize gov't and not be killed, tortured, arrested, have your house seized, etc. It has ZERO bearing on private business. This forum and website ARE a business and are defacto "private property". I can't walk into your house and bad mouth you and your family, without repercussions, or having you call the cops and forcing me to leave. no different than in a forum. you can be expelled if not abiding by the owners desires.

Ive not had any issues and I’m pretty honest with my responses about equipment. The military did teach me to express my opinion ....but with tact and respect.

I have heard that the metal detecting forums in general are not getting the readership they once did, because so much has moved to Facebook and social media. White's probably just did not consider Findmall worthwhile advertising, anymore, so probably more a reflection on Findmall than White's. But, who knows?

It is a shame the forums on White's own website aren't more active. Quite a number of people have reported essentially being driven away by overzealous moderators. If I were White's, I would interject a little First Amendment spirit and open the forums up to all honest discussion and debate.

BUT..... people need to remember someones paying for these sites. When you start paying...... then you get a bigger voice. Freedom of speech....... come on. Have you ever been on twitter? People are just hateful and down right nasty to views they dont like. Lets face it some people dont know how to express themselves if they feel they just got disrespected. It turns ugly fast. Rules are there for a reason. Just like my Facebook page and others im on..... there is a unfriend and BLOCK button. Ive noticed some sponsors are sponsoring Facebook pages now or being promoted over others.

The hobby itself is being strangled by fewer places to hunt. The hard core veterans will slowly go away with age. These forums are the last of a dying age. Just another hobby of mine done in by time. Parking lots, clad, and tungsten. Gaggggggg!

At least I was around and detecting when silver was expected and pretty much insignificant to the pouch.

To set the record straight …… there are more metal detectors manufactured than ever before..... in the history of planet Earth. Also............…. there are more manufacturers coming on-board... then ever before.

Yes and fewer places to hunt than ever before. Something has gotta give.

Harold: You're not thinking globally. A significant number of US-made machines are exported, whether it's Europe for relic-hunting, Australia for nuggets and general coin/jewellery hunting, Africa for gold. There's plenty of cutomers out there that don't have 'hunted-out' land.

Yes but as far as the US goes the spots closed to Detecting in just the last 5 years is astonishing.
I am talking Public spots here, But from what I here a lot of Private Property has been lost to do to careless hunters also. A lot of Newbs just don't know how it use to be so they don't realise. Man it was Fun while it lasted.

Well said Richard. Whenever I say it I am a Grumpy Old Man. One or Two always disagree with Me just too do so, But even they know deep down I am right.

Again, it is the changing of the times. Forums of ALL hobbies have saw a significant drop in members and guests. All of it has migrated to other forms of social media. Whites Electronics Facebook page currently has nearly 34,000 followers that see every video, every finds picture, everything Whites posts, they see it. They can enter contests, post their finds, etc too. If you took all the popular metal detecting forums and combined the total members (subtracting the duplicates that post on several forums) you wouldn't get anywhere near their 34,000 followers. Manufacturers know that it is THE way to get info out to people now, and the place to generate talk and such with their products.

I strongly agree with daniel, forum all over the place are dying ... in France it is the same.
People want the information to be pushed to them with a centralisation of information, so they stick to social media and they have the whole bundle with no effort. People are lazy nowaday and want to be spoon feed.

Lots of folks I suppose use social media due to being younger. It is the in thing. Broader audience generally, and some folks may feel threatened moreso by going onto a dedicated detecting forum. They definitely feel more comfortable where their buds hang out.

Some folks just don’t want the intracasies of detecting, detectors in general comparing the different models.

They want to sweep a detector and find stuff period,

We have seen newspapers, magazines really go by the wayside.

Paper print is as they say for the birds.

Lot of folks use cheaper priced units too. They have fun with them and seems are satisfied with them. They don’t have much need to spend more to maybe get a little more.

You tube I’m sure is looked st by a lot of folks. They may consider this their actual main teaching tool. So they don’t need to come here or on any other forum to get info or advice.

Lot of old timers likely do neither. Come to places like this or even bother with social media. They in their minds have the detector currently they are going to be buried with.

Some folks won’t come to places like this for they feel if they actually do contribute they would have to be here.

We do see some folks though who were at one time onlookers and have decided to wade in here and get their feet wet.

Some forums (like this one), threads can have very technical talk/language and this may indeed scare some folks off.

So, for the folks who are members here and post. Good on you. I like to hear different perspective and ideas. I like to see the technical talk too,

Some folks who frequent here are getting quite old. I wish all the best of health and hope they all can hopefully continue to give input.
