Good that you realize that somebody somewhere paid for the "free" update---Occasionally Cortex may have an opening on her economic advisory team.grinning smiley

Would you be this so self righteous without the Deus. And how can you include te Equinox in that statement when you've only used it for such a short time.

I got hundreds of hours on the Equinox because I got one of the first ones to come out. You doubt me knowing the Equinox man where have you been? I mean have you not seen the finds I have made with it..I know that machine very well...Oh I forgot some of you think it takes 10 yrs to learn a detector model and that might be true with the old dinosaurs some of you use....

I have a neighbor who was a scientist at Kodak for 40 years - we call him Kodak Bob. His knowledge of the chemistry of film is unparalleled - PhD and all. Of course - today that’s worth nothing in the marketplace - he retired with a nice pension 30 years ago.

The other thing he is a brilliant photographer with a fine assortment of all the latest digital gear from the top manufacturers (all Japanese, of course).

I had lunch with him the other day and showed him a pic I am especially proud of, taken with a “point and shoot level camera. I told him that I have no claim to be a great photographer, just that I have been serious bout it since I was 8 years old (that’s 64 years ago). He was suitably unimpressed with my credentials, but admireded the pic. His comment “f8 and be there”..

For the non photographers in the forum, he meant - there is sometimes a great picture just sitting there - if you are there - and don’t screw it up - regardless of minor issues with your equipment - it’s yours.

Congratulations to every hunter who has made great finds and pardon me if I respond “f8 and be there”

Did he say something that isn't true?

Calibration: To bring an instrument to a known standard.

NASA Tom calibrated his instruments by adjusting knobs, ports, etc.MineLab calibrated the "Mighty Knox"(a Tnss gush) by utilizing software.

When I mentioned calibrating the"Mighty Knox" the Washer Women launched--gonna give Ole Doc a washin' he won't never fergit-FAIL--they misunderstood that calibrating doesn't always require a hammer and wrench."Poor souls, they were just too high strung".

I find it's really unfair to compare a new detector model against a 20 year old machine. I have owned a CZ3D and it was a good machine for its time. However, it cannot begin to compare to new technology. I retired from the USAf as an aircraft maintainer. The F16 is a great fighter and has it's place in the arsenal. However, I finished my career working on the F22 Raptor, stealth fighter. Both aircraft are exceptional at what they do. But, they can never be compared because one is 30 years older than the other. If a CZ3D works for you then great. I see the tests for what they are. Calabash is showing the results of both machines.

I have no dog in the fight....I enjoy all comparison videos and make my own judgements.

Just my thoughts........

Doc,
You made my point. Thank you. I think it was you who misunderstood, though, as you asked me if I had had my Nox "calibrated" by a professional. Clearly, you did not understand that digital machines, updated via the Internet, do not need to be "calibrated" by sending it to somebody to perform that service. Thankfully, those days are gone.

Sorry,BUT I asked you if your Nox would not benefit from a calibration by an expert---never said or asked about you "sending" it anywhere and apparently the EXPERTS at ML determined that not just your but All Noxes needed a calibration to their new software. The error occurred, not from my not understanding that digital machines could be updated via the internet, but from your misreading of my post. Makro has been updating via the internet Before the nox was born.

There, now we can be friends again.

The Fisher CZ......I have got 26 good years from mine. I know what it’s limitations are and I accept it. Calabash brings a lot to the table......information....good or bad , it helps to make decisions on future purchases that I can make. I like ole calabashes info better than the info that was provided for the last 40 years of detecting by publication/ print media where you got detector reviews that were always great (no detector had a single weakness...... ever)!!! New innovation comes to everything, and weather we accept or reject it, .... well that’s your call. The greatest success in detecting comes from getting permission to hunt a location, then knowing how to use the detector (adjust to different soil type etc. etc.). Calabash isn’t hurting this hobby, he just showing possibilities. His enthusiasm for performance from any given detector is welcome!! HH Tony

Respectful discourse is where true learning comes from. If we all, "just got along"... we would never get anywhere.

Tony is right on the money!

Remember man these detectors are just a piece of plastic. Sound familiar.

I was not offended about the plastic....I was though when he started telling me what my skill set was with the unit..
