Question on frequency
March 17, 2009 09:45PM
Tom the frequency these detectors= DFX 3&15KHz, SE 28, F75 13, 1270 8.2, 3D 5&15. All of these detectors will find silver coins. I was told that the lower frequency was for mostly silver & clad like dimes & quarters, and the higher frequency were for nickels & gold. All these detectors will get clad, silver and gold very good. Does it make any difference in the frequency to get the gold & silver??? Thanks John

John,

The lower the freq, the more resonant to silver (and deeper detection). This is to say, the higher the freq -- the more resonant to gold. This is for most cases. In a high mineralization environment.... higher freq's are more accurate,,,,, but penetration becomes difficult. ID accuracy will also suffer. Too many factors enter .... making a concrete answer very difficult. Unless you are specifically prospecting.... I would not place much focus on freq, , , rather, put your energies on the performance of the unit in your specific hunting applications.

(( The Minelab Ex is not 28Khz; rather, it's 28 freq's ranging from 1.5Khz to 100Khz )).

Now, if you are hunting wet salt....... multi-freq (or PI) is a requirement. Try a single freq unit on low conductive targets BURIED IN THE WET SALT (not an air test).... and see how poor they perform. For wet salt beaches, use CZ's, Explorers, Excals, Sov's.

Thanks Tom that is a big help.

By this the CZ machine will do very good in shallow salt beach hunting or wet sand?
Which CZ machine?

All CZ's........... not any particular/specific one..... as they deliberately have a 'salt' mode. Although the CZ-6, 6a, 7, 7a, 7a Pro & 70 are splashproof......... and the CZ-20 is waterproof (up to 250 feet). This should be taken into consideration when hunting wet areas....especially saltwater.
