'it's a gamble! no question!" with "most "' places to hunt being
'"cooked",one has to be concerned as to whether an "occasional"
good find is adequate enough to make ya find the scratch to buy one!
plenty of detectors available right now that hunt very well in the trash
with the proper coil on board.and they DON'T cost any where near $2,500.00..of course,if the ctx proves to be waterproof to 10 feet,
then surf hunting "could" pay for it much more quickly..just sayin'

I'll let everyone know when I get some time using mine. I never worry about what I find, since I hunt for pleasure first and payback second. But so far, I have never been dissapointed with my yearly totals with the E Trac...and I hunt heavily pounded cellar holes and the occasional park. I've reserved the 3030 with all of the available options, so it will take a while to sort them out. Don't expect comparrison hunts from me though lol. I go to places that I've already been to repeatedly and try out new machines. My reasoning for not comparing 2 of my machines side by side is that when you locate a target with a new machine, you immediately skew the results for the second machine. For me anyways, it's never been about hearing a target with the second machine, but rather would you have alerted to the the target in the first place, without knowing where it already is. Minelab has always found me targets, after I hunted a site with my other brand. I am excited for the 3030, but it seems it may take a while to fully appreciate the ability to see multiple targets below the coil at any given time. Not like they are labeled clearly for you lol.

I will wait on this machine. Keep the Ex.cal going a while longer.
Pobably but the used ETrac.

On the MLO forum a guy is claiming to get the CTX for $200 less than the $2499 price. You just have to haggle a bit.

I wonder if this means pre-orders are not where they would think. This might make sense as they said they are not shipping as many as first thought - Sounds like advertising...

I don't see why the CTX would be different than any other detector...dealers taking a little off the list price when trying to make a deal. Unless Minelab made it an absolute....a fixed selling price.

The thing is balanced, almost swings itself. The 3d hipmounted with 10" coil is a tad harder to swing, nose heavy.

ok i have no beaches and dont get near the water due to the over crowding water snakes here ( they scare me to death) so the water proof means nothing to me. wieght means nothing cuz i can take a break any time i want to. but thats alot of overtime to pay for a machine that i cant even use all the capabilities of. from what im reading it dosnt have much depth over the etrac so the 1000 dollar cost diffrence will go along way with getting to and from dig sites as well as plenty of drinks to enjoy while taking my many breaks smiling smiley i doubt i will even consider the high cost.

I agree that some of the features I am just not interested in. But the ability to see two or more targets on the screen at one time is fascinating. I will wait for some good videos and reports from friends. But I can tell you since I have owned the Deus unmasking of targets is the number one requirement for my future detectors. How well it stacks up against the Deus in that area is the question that is most on my mind. I can tell you the E Trac did not compete with the Deus in that area. So how good is Smartfind 2 and FBS 2? We will soon find out.
