Went down town Phila. for my physical to be drafted into the Army, (I think in 1971). My number was 68. Two weeks or so later the draft ended. Fine with me.

Ozzie,

It had to have been 1973. I was drafted in Oct 1972. Number 93. Was the next to the last ever drafted in my county. The last guy was number 94. We left on the same bus for Ft. Leonardwood, Mo for basic.LOL AIT at Fort Polk (Tiger Land) and two weeks before we were to go to Nam, they signed the Paris Peace Accord. They split my unit up and sent half to Korea and the rest of us to Germany.

You are correct Cuniagau, just looked up the year, 1973 it ended. I turned 18 in 1971, graduated high school in 71. I didn't recall that much time between graduating and the date of the physical. Thanks for the correction.
Do you remember your age when you took your physical?

Ozzie,

I was also class of '71. I got my notice for my physical in July, to take the physical in Aug, got my draft notice in Sept to report for basic in Oct. I was 19. Had my first "Cs" on my 20th birthday less than a month later. It was raining cats and dogs and the "Ham and Eggs" can filled up with rain water before I got to eat those "tastie" morsels of #$%@. Oh, the good ole days... LOL
