Off Topic: Another life wake-up call
September 13, 2013 12:25AM
I've been having some problems with my hearing on the right side for better part of a year now.

Tried some home remedies, loosening a probably blocage.
After enough nagging from the wife, had the doctor look at it.
He promptly referred me to a specialist.

Several visits, tests and meds later. Couldn't put his finger on the symptoms.
So had me do an NMR scan.

Which revealed a benign meningioma brain tumor pushing on a hearing nerve. WAKE UP!!!
Now I'm up for a visit to a hospital with a team of specialists who will debate treatment.
Either radiotheraphy of micro neurochirurgery.

Hey I'm not a big fan of needles and doctors, but the mention of brain tumor sure got my attention!!

So,... after coming to terms with the fact.
Seeing what distress it caused the wife and kids,...

I've decided to enjoy life a little more,... not stress about the little things,... because you sure can't stress about the big issues.
They just happen!!

In the immortal words of Forest Gump:"@#$%& Happens!"

Just needed to vent guys, thx for reading.

Now where were we on the detecting front,... having a ball with an F75 at the moment.

With your positive spirit, you'll be fine smiling smiley I will say a prayer for you. Look at the plus side, you're already getting more detecting time out of this, lol.

All the Best,
Joe

Most problems clear up on their own, so it's easy to put off going to the doctor too long. Been guilty of that myself for sure. Glad to hear the tumor is benign.

A good reminder to appreciate every day we are blessed to be alive, My prayers are with you, John.

Good luck and our prayers are with you....had a heart scare early this summer and about 2 weeks ago took my dog for a walk around the block. Out of nowhere a golden retriever burst out a door and ran towards my dog which was in front of me...honestly don't know if he wanted to kiss or bite my Female Keeshond but he hit me in the back of the legs and flipped me backwards from the concrete walk on to the adjoining lawn. Luckily I landed in the grass and my head missed the concrete by inches. Lady actually called the ambulance seeing me flipped by a 120 lb. dog but wasn't needed as I was a bit sore but no major problems. Indeed life is a matter of inches, seconds and a little luck don't hurt either so smell the roses forum members as one never knows.
PS: Tony from Orlando had a similar problem several years ago and all turned out alright and feel with todays medical advancements all will turn out alright. Keep us posted and imagine you will have some down time but come back stronger than ever...

Dan, I'm a big Tony Orlando fan. Don't remember him having a medical scare. When was this?

It always amazes me how our dog and most animals live in the Now.
For us humans it requires a whole lot more practice.

@Lowboy The simplest of things keep me going these days. Enjoying my detecting, just digging stuff keeps me going.

Well, went to a hospital specialised in brain stuff. Spoke to a few doctors, they looked at the scans, decided on the best treatment for me.
I'm lucky the "Alien" is growing slowly at the bottom of my brain. They can remove it with microchirurgy and a 3 month down period.
Expect to retain some hearing loss and some loss of facial expression on the same side.

The other option, well....... eventually dropping into a coma and a question mark outcome isn't an option is it!

Hey guys they are going to give me a Pirates make-over.
So we booked a date.

In the mean time my business needs to keep running,... it and the inssurance eventually pays all the bills.
So I'm making myself obsolete.
Moved my office into the main building, no long walks between bed and paperwork.
Allready started training people how to do my job,......... this is the hardest part at the moment,.... acceptance.

Anyway,...
Had another rain drenched short dig with the F75, bagged a few coins and an ornate brass thingy.
Needs a clean-up.

Well tuesday they had a spot open and removed the alien grownig in my brain.
Turned out to be a fairly hefty size, but then I'm a big guy.
Drove to the middle of the country "Belgium isn't that large" to have it done.

And now I'm walking around drowsed up by pain killers and taking the dog for a little walk in the back garden.
Hospital beds are hard as nails and felt more comfortable on the way back back in the car.

Specialist took a look yesterday and said I was good to go and start my recovery from home.
Huge amount of meds and bandages, I look like a war vet hit by a shot to the head.

But I'm enjoying the sunrays on my back.
Thanks for all they prayers and good vides out there!

Take your time and listen to the Doc's. Fortunately the good guy doesn't always ride off into the sunset like the old cowboy movies never to be seen again but returns to fight another day. Am sure that will be your case and God speed your recovery.
With my medical circumstances along with my wifes have only spent a few hours in the field so lets hope for a much improved year next season...

as paul newman stated to fredric march in the movie 'hombre"
quote: "it's a shock to grow old mr. russell" it would seem you
tend to "sail" along in life, then a harsh dose of reality happens,
and "voila!" a different mind set ensues, all of which is perfectly understandable.
enjoy that f-75,and all the life has to offer, knowing that god,in his infinite wisdom,
has a "plan" for you!..god bless!

@ Dan-Pa
Indeed there is always next season, it seems us "young guns" takes a whole lot of effort in trying to emulate your results in just a few hours at the parc.
No hiding that experience allready gained.
Sgt-Major is keeping a close eye on my recovery.

@ Jmaryt
Indeed no other way to go through life but sail it,... not at the moment though.
Plans are just that,... nothing more than a plan. Good oldfashioned principles have always held us, ... and then I mean the family and me in check.
Some money in the back-pocket, a good helping of work ethic and have a good time while your doing it.

Going to shut down for now, ... I've been limited to one post every half day by Sgt-Major.
