Double Flying Eagle Day
December 31, 2013 12:37AM
Hey guys, I hit another 1870's site again today. It is half pasture and half wooded. This site was really loaded with iron but managed to pull 2 FE cents and a 1899 Vnickel among some other cool relics, The first FE cent was laying with 2 nails and the V nickel was laying with a iron ring of some sorts. The F75 did its job and pull several nonferrous items out on this hunt.HH. Not sure but I think the half shoes my be oxen shoes? instead of horseshoes??

Thanks Ozzie. The cattle had most of the grass smashed down. I was in je mode with 99 sen so not to loose to much depth. I have never found 2 FE cents in one day, heck it as been a few years since finding the last one.

Corey -- NICE HUNT! Super job on the relics, the TWO flying eagles to go with your "V".

Looks like the soil at that site is pretty rough on the old coins...fertilizer?

Wow that ground is harsh on coins great finds sounds like fun I love to hunt in the woods. I found one flying eagle from the 1850s it is in great shape found it in Carolina of all places all I need is a gold coin and I will be very happy with my collection of relics and coins

Thanks guys for the commits. It was a fun hunt. I Evan found a 1889 world fair watch fab today at the same site.
Steve, This soil may have a low ph level ?? I know there is a lot of rusting looking soil mixed with a lot of coal ashes.

My favorite Small cent ...

Never liked the hipocrisy of the Indian head cent...The Flying Eagle though is a Beautiful piece of Americana!

They turn up quite often in Civil war sites when comapring them to the Indian also..Or that's been my finding's over the year's..

Congrats 2 on the same Day!

Great finds, especially the 2 FE cents.

The closest that I got to finding one was a salt water worn down 1859 fat IH penny.

The thought of find 2 FE cents in one day is unimaginable.

Congrats.
