PICTURES ADDED 3/30/14 - CTX w/6" coil review ;-)
March 30, 2014 12:27AM
Hey all,

just thought I'd let you'all know I got the 6" coil for the CTX and I'm going to be posting my initial thoughts on the unit & all the finds made on its maiden voyage here tomorrow eve. (Sunday).

I wanted to do it today but I had to work 1/2 the day and didn't have enough time to fully hunt the place I'm doing my test run with it. You might know - I get there - get set up, tune the machine in, head up the hill to where I hunted with the ETrac last spring in a trash infested site where a really old school sits on a hill

and then all of a sudden (after about 45 mins) the unthinkable happens

a poop attack comes on full force - forcing me to run for the truck (stoopid Chinese food) and the joys of urban treasure hunting where you can't just do like the Bears do in the woods!

So - I had to cut it short today but am going back tomorrow around noon and will hit it hard for about 4 hrs :-)

I found a few goodies today but I'll wait until I gather up everything I find tomorrow and post it all at once with the review, settings, etc...

Stay tuned :-D

First off why are you eating chinese food ?????

That stuff scares me..

I only eat the shrimp if I end up at a Chinese place...I dont know any part of other amimals or critter's that looks like Shrimp LOL!!!!

Cant wait to see your find's.

The only place I see an advantage with the 6 inch is in the dense iron with proper settings dialed in...

in other words the stock coil is a great coil...but to unlock iron on a level compared to say a site machine then the 6 inch is REQUIRED

most other areas the stock coil is hard to beat...

I'm very interested in your 6" coil test. My hunting buddy has the coil but never used it.

If you have any iron infested areas, that coil will really prove its worth. If you really know what your doin w the CTX you can keep right up w a Deus.

Lol

I love rice and veggies!

I usually get either Xtra spicy Combination fried rice (has pork, shrimp, beef, chicken) and veggies

or

sauteed broccoli with white rice and pour the hot-sauce on!

I opted for the broccoli today for lunch but that was a bad choice!

Not too sure how the standard coil would work in this site Keith

it's really really trashy (iron, aluminum, and junk period) - it's a mix - was a dump site before the school was built.

It's on what used to be the "edge of town" on a hill so people (from the city) used to dump their trash there because it was woods and nothing beyond until the later 40s/50s when they filled and expanded the roads over that way... School was built in the 20s I believe though... so... they stopped dumping around that time (or at least MOST of the dumping at that time)...

I tried the E-Trac with the 11" coil but it didn't work so good so I used the 4.5x7 and plucked some keepers out going that route.

That's why I'm using the 6" on the CTX ----- to see what IT will do in that junk...

Too funny ;-)

My "iron sites" (bean/cornfields, etc.) aren't yet open to hunt Keith (today/tomorrow are literally my 1st 2 hunts this yr) but I have to wait for them to fully UNthaw from that winter we had PLUS the ones that you can get in - where they're only 1/2 covered in snow currently

they are so muddy/mucky due to snow melt that you don't wanna go in them at the moment anyway

not unless you want 6" of thick clay/mud stuck to your boots, and most likely all over your clothes, detector, truck and everywhere else! lol

Sucks all the way around for us during winter/spring thaw!

Mid April til around the end of May are good times for hunting fields/iron sites here (as is oct til about the 1st part of Dec.)...

I'm with you Aaron

I mean - I too (now) have both machines so you can bet I'm gonna be using it (the CTX) in every site I use the Deus and I'll be puttin it to the test with that 6" mounted :-)

I just wanna see what the Deus doesn't find/leaves behind that the CTX can pick out

It'd be nice if Deus could/would make a smaller coil (like a 5 or 6") but.... even then I bet it'd leave a few things behind that the FBS would pick up on...

I know I've been hoping for a smaller coil for the DEUS too but it doesn't look like its gonna happen. Andy Sabbish just recently said on the findmall forum that its not even on the drawing board.
That's why I got tmanleys GMP, because it has a 5" coil!

I got out for the first time today w the LTD, the ground was soft though cold, going to be warmer tomorrow, hopefully find my first silver of the year.

Have fun w the CTX, great machine!

You really don't want to go fishing on a 21' boat and have spicy stuff the night before !!

Planning your hunts involves a whole lot more than using the wright coil and Tector.

I'm going to hurt some peoples feelings now,... but in a trashy park "barrage of signals every sweep" the CTX with 6" coil will go above and beyond a 9" Deus.

There are some others out there I'm trying or like to try, but you won't be dissapointed at what you pull behind a Deus.

yup! big difference between the two!
aluminum is a "genuine" pain in da ass,
and an ongoing "nightmare" just about everywhere
these days in an urban setting..just sayin'

I've brought the CTX w 6" coil into my favorite iron site that I previously hit really hard w the DEUS and still managed to find a few more non Fe targets.

The 6" coil is well worth the money. I remember 2 yrs ago when the CTX came out, we had to wait 6 months to get the 6" coil, the whole time I was wondering as I used the CTX "how would this thing do with a small coil?".

I would have believed it had worked this good though...

Yup....my key board has coffee all over it ! That was funny.

As far as the 6 inch coil on the CTX goes, my opinion is it's a must have coil for the arsenal.
Re: Starting CTX w/6" coil review, thoughts, comments, etc.

I had plans to hunt a certain area with my CTX and brand new six inch coil myself this weekend. Too bad it is raining like crazy here in PA. The ground is sure going to be muddy for a while. I can see the slightest turning to green in the grass. This is my favorite time of the year to hunt.

I also invested in a pair of earbuds for Summer hunting. I gave my last pair to my son so I didn't have to hear his computer at night time.

The six inch coil with smooth tone is a killer combo. I have a normal program set up with normal tones available with one push of the personal button. Combined with target trace and checking the targets from multiple angles I dig very little trash.

I had the Deus last year and I feel I was quite good with it. My personal opinion is that the CTX can do everything the Deus can do. But the Deus can not identify targets as well as the CTX. Weight and ergo issues aside I like the CTX much better.

This area I want to hunt is full of aluminum and iron trash. I have pulled quite a few keepers out of the trash the last two years. The CTX and stock coil got me a few more last weekend. When someone mentions hunted out this site is very close to being that. I would be very satisfied with two keepers. If I fail to find them I'm scratching this site off my list either way. But I thought this would be a big test for the six inch coil.
Re: Starting CTX w/6" coil review, thoughts, comments, etc.

Ok guys

here's the pics I promised (nothing too impressive) but here's the run down

I find the CTX with the small 6" coil to be excellent in trash so far. This was my CTX's maiden voyage including the 6" coil so as time goes on I'm sure I'll have more to add but as you can see - it sifts thru the trash and finds hidden goods extremely well :-)

The CTX doesn't act exactly like the E-Trac but it is similar in many ways yet has enough differences that I need to test it and use it more to fine tune it and learn to use all the variances to their fullest potential...

So far it seems the CTX and small coil like finding Buttons

Ran wide open screen in combined mode, deep off, fast on, high trash on, sensitivity at manual 24, set nails/iron low tone to 30 on the FE (bottom line).

Anyway - notice the snow still on the ground, the school at the top of the hill, and the incline of the hill in the 2nd shot ;-) To say it was a pain to hunt just after snow melt on such an incline while slipping in the mud/sliding down the hill is an understatement

but

you can see it was worth it in the end!

Some of this stuff I dug and pictured (pulltabs, iron, etc.) just so you'll know what I'm dealing with at this site --- the junk is everywhere you swing and it's a constant barrage in your ears!

P.S.
The oldest coin is the 1892 or 93 one ORE (1 ORE) - found a 1927 wheat and a 1943 war nickel -- a 1950s Jefferson too

Will do Keith - I'll give it a try next time out there

but

can you tell me "why" does the ctx report high conductors (dimes, 1/4s, etc.) as the absolute highest audio/tone UNlike the E-Trac where it reported them as the 2nd highest tone?

Is it because of running the machine in "combined"??

I find that one a bit tuff to wanna deal with! I liked how the etrac sounded off on coins, etc. and the highest tone was iron (in 4TF anyway)
Re: PICTURES ADDED 3/30/14 - CTX w/6" coil review ;-)
March 31, 2014 10:43AM
If you want the iron to high tone you can change the pitch for the below fe line to make it do so. You would then need to change the conductive bins pitch to suit your taste.
You can do it on the machine or it is easier Ito do in the exchange program.

Also loks like you had a good day. Hunting and digging in the mud is never fun. I tried to hunt a spot today and ever hole would fill with water. Had to move to another spot.
My finds did not look as good as yours so i wont eloborate.

Hi,,,looks like a nice mix of older and newer stuff...I can imagine the noise you must of had to deal with...That looks like a 1893 Norway ORE....Did you experience the wheelie effect while using the 6" coil???? The button with the lion holding an axe is a Norwegian military button - 19th century, not sure when exactly.

Thanks for the info lytle78

I thought it may be something other than a civilian type button - knew it wasn't USA looking though ;-)
