Used noise cancel #11, audio gain = 30 with the 18”x15” SEF coil, 13” Ultimate coil, Pro coil, and the Minelab 8” coil. Sensitivity level varied depending on coil.

Got in 3 days of detecting, 2 days at the beach, and the last at a park.

The 1st day, went to the beach and got a silver earring in the sandy area. The rocky area produced a lightweight 10k gold ring with the date “6-20-52”. It’s probably been out there for a while because of the typical 10k green blobs around the “eaten away” solder point at the back of the ring. At manual sensitivity of around 25, the ring face gave a strong signal in the rocks.

The 2nd day, hit the rocky area again for some more recently washed-in light weight gold jewelry trapped around the rocks. Wound up with 5 corroded wheat pennies and some other stuff.

On the 3rd day, went to a trash filled park and pulled out a silver ring.

Here’s the 10k 1952 gold ring, the silver ring and the silver earring. Too bad the stone isn’t real.

ID = inner diameter (in millimeters)
Procoil auto-sensitivity = 16
Rings air-tested with ring parallel to coil, unless otherwise noted

carat ID grams depth FE-CO max depth description
10k 14.5 1.54 2” 12-07 3.5” gold ring, ring parallel to coil
3” 12-07 5” gold ring, ring face parallel to coil

Here are some of the before and after cleaning photos.

Here are some of the not-so-glamorous finds.

Sweet ring, especially the date being on it.

Congrats

South San Francisco.
Just a few miles south of San Francisco.

Still waiting for the “extremely elusive” gold coin.
But the gold rush area is a good spot for privately minted California gold.

It’s very nice to get a gold ring with an inscribed date on it. At least you know when it was made.
Unfortunately, most U.S. gold and silver jewelry don’t have hallmarks indicating when it was made, like the European ones.
