F19 observation & question
February 02, 2015 01:02AM
I have discovered that the iron audio volume setting is not affected by the V-break on my F19.
It seems the iron audio volume is connected to the VDI numbers and only affects VDI numbers over and under 40.
Iron audio volume always changes at 40 regardless of where the V-break is set.

EXAMPLE 1: volume=13 V-break=33 disc=0 no notch
Target numbers below 33 are low tone & low volume
Target numbers between 33-40 are high tone & low volume
Target numbers above 40 are high tone & high volume

EXAMPLE 2: volume=13 V-break=50 disc=0 no notch
Target numbers below 40 are low tone & low volume
Target numbers between 40-50 are low tone & high volume
Target numbers above 50 are high tone and high volume

EXAMPLE 3: volume=13 V-break=0 disc=0 no notch
Target numbers below 40 are high tone & low volume
Target numbers above 40 are high tone & high volume

Has anyone else noticed this on their F19 or do I have a problem?

I have not experienced this, but I have my volume set at 20. That way, ferrous and non-ferrous have the same volume. I learned from this awesome site several years ago the value of hearing the ferrous tones. I am not sure that answers your question. If not, I will do some experimenting this week and see if ours are equals.
I will say this: I have owned several G2's and they were always real close in performance. I never had one that I felt needed sending back. Until I got my last one......it falsed too much. They re-calibrated the coil and it now performs perfectly as designed.
I STILL think that I missed the gist of your thread. But not intentionally.

This is from the manual:
V-Break (Change audio for certain targets)
V-Break is a feature that allows the user to change the audio response of
certain targets. V-Break allows the user to program the detector so that any
target with an ID in the range of 0 - 80 can induce a LOW tone.
Examples
:
The user sets V-Break to a desired setting (e.g. 42).
Every target with ID less than or equal to 42 induces a low tone.
The audio response of targets with IDs greater than 42 are not changed.VBreak
can be set only for Target-IDs that have not previously been rejected
using the discrimination or notch functions.

The iron Volume only works on 1-39 target I.D..

the Vbreak can be anywhere..say you have it at 45...well up to 39 will be controlled by Iron volume 40-45 will still be iron tone but will be controlled by the Non ferrous tone setting,,That volume control goes from 40-99 so it will be a low tone but could be louder according to wherever you have the high tone volume set...

it also is the same for the high tone below 40...say you ahve the V-break and 30 well the VCO high tone will be from 30-99 but from 30-40 the high tone will be controlled by the Iron volume control..

Confusing I know..

Just rememer the voume controls are are separated from 1-39//40-99 so if you slide your tone in one bin or the other that overtakes the volume of the tone by the V-break setting...

Yours is working right..

Thanks for the replies.

Keith, Thanks for confirming that my F19 is working properly.

Hunting with these settings is really interesting.
volume=13
V-break=0
disc=0
no notch
All signals are high tone. It's like hunting in 1-tone on a T2 or F75.
The difference is all signals below 40 are quiet and all signals above 40 are loud and really jump out at you.

Laserfeller, sound like you are liking your F-19!!! I like mine too!!! It is PERFECT for my type of hunting!!! I am going to try the 13 inch Ultimate on it Wednesday, if I get to go.

Kevin B, I traded my G2 for the F19 a few weeks ago. I use it mainly for the quick separation in iron/nail infested sites.
I like and use the new features (iron audio, v-break) while relic hunting. The iron audio is easy on the ears.
I also have a T2 that is at Teknetics getting upgraded. I use an Ultimate 13 on my T2 when I'm scouting in the woods or fields for new sites.
