Thanks for the article.
How did I know that the conclusion would be that "metal detecting and relic hunting" would be blamed for any and all perceived anything by a group of public trough feeding guvmint leeches. The head of the department is a flabby fat moron who could not do any useful field work. My personal experience with my state archive dept. is that these office jocks have the largest and best collections anywhere.I know for a FACT that they loot the state inventories and the reason they don't want any competition is because they want it for themselves."Public servant" is the most laughable description of these leeches.Want to prove me wrong--do a little detective work in your own area.
AND noncaring MD'ers who litter and leave uncovered holes and bring dishonor to our hobby are as much to blame as the greed of these guvmint leeches.

I couldn't agree more Doc Holiday. I had a personal run in with them just recently, I had been doing research on a suspected Lewis & Clark encampment, finally found the location and land owner. Well........the "Archies" had already beat me to it, been working it for several years. The land owner was friendly and let me have several other spots on his vast property, just not on that Lewis & Clark archaeology workings. I asked him what they had been finding there, he said not much, just some rusty bed springs and nails...LOL...I asked him if they had metal detectors and he said they had 4 of them. I told him I would show him what I found and that included the good stuff that the State Archies would not do.
