The Racer's fit for tall users
March 26, 2015 12:19PM
A couple of messages were posted in another thread a few weeks ago
regarding whether the Racer's rods would extend long enough for
an unusually tall person. Rather than hijacking that thread, I'll start
a new one here on this subject.

I received my Racer on March 25. I was concerned that the rods
might not extend long enough for me, because I'm 6'6" tall (198.5 cm)
and MOST things don't fit me very well, if at all. I was especially
concerned because Keith Southern mentioned that he is 6'1" tall
(186 cm), and he had his Racer's rod extended to its maximum length
in order to fit him.

Well, my guess is that the production Racers that recently shipped
(one of which I received) are a little different in this regard from the
early test models that were sent previously, one of which Keith
received. I say this because when I assembled my Racer, I put
the rod at its maximum length, and it felt like it might even be a little
too long for me! (This is a rare experience for me. Usually things
are a little, or a lot, too short. Too long almost never happens.)

So during my first few hours using the Racer, some of the time I had
it extended to the maximum length, and sometimes I tried the next
shorter length (the second to last hole in the rod). I'm not sure yet
which length I will settle on, but it might be the second longest length.

I just thought some other tall people who are considering buying a
Racer might want to know this. I'm sure my body dimensions might
not match other people who are the same height, but I hope this
info gives others at least a rough idea of how the Racer might work
for them.

Hi Tom, I know that if I use my detector to long, It makes my arm hurt after a while. I try to keep my coil about 18" from my toes. That fits about right. If your arm starts to hurt try to shorten your rod, that might help you make a better choice on lenth.

Tom could you measure from under hand grip to top of coil fully extended please.. I like 42-42.5" for me..

Thanks TallTom. I, too, am fairly tall at 6'4" and I am comfortably able to use hole#2, (with hole#1 being the shortest installed length). I have had no problems with being tall and using the Racer.......and I still have plenty of holes to go.

Hi Tom,

How are you...

Yes, you're right.

I've had dozens of machines thru the years and in my opinion, the CENTER rod is LONGER than the norm!
Am the opposite of you: around 5' 6", so I have it set short...
With the small coil on the balance AND comfort for me is BRILL

Enjoy your 'Racer'...Good Hunting

I think the production model is different middle shaft length..

I have to run my pre production in last hole....

So I think the release ones have a longer middle shaft..

At full extension, I measure it at 39" to the top (of the underside) of the hand grip,
and 40" to the bottom. The difference is because the hand grip is at
an angle, of course.

I'm surprised you want such a long distance. My arms must
be a lot longer than yours, or my shoulders lower, or you're
a lot taller. Or maybe you just like to swing your coil much
farther out in front of you than I do.

I remeasured mine its about 39 to top underneath of handle... Thats my F75ltd2. I thought it was more than that by memory lol. That shows my age winking smiley. So it looks like if i do decide to buy a racer that it will be long enough...thank you for taking the time
