Depends on the dirt. But in my dirt I'll say Minelab E Trac and CTX.

FBS units are king.

Yes the etrac. But I have to say that the GBP, G2 and F19 have super accurate ID at depth. Not as deep on copper and silver as the FBS's but on low to mid upper conductors they are super.

Etrac/Explorer or Fisher CZ's.

Etrac/CTX on mid to high conductors. Low conductors the FBS units start struggling.

We were just talking about how the 20 year old technology of the CZ's are still performing right up with the best of them. Amazing actually.

What Kenny said!----Plus ad the CTX (right behind the Etrac for high conductors).

Just depends on where you are. Any of the FBS machines I've used will max out approx 6 inches in my soil. You'll not hear a coin at 8 inches PERIOD. End of story. I'd bet a steak dinner on it. I never tried it on a half or silver dollar but I know for a fact that quarter size and under wont be heard.

But at the same time...never had an ID meter machine to be reliable anyway.

For us vintage lovers, I have a large token about the size of a half dollar coin buried in my test garden at 10 inches! My old Teknetics Mark 1 hits it consistently with the needle into the coin range in all directions. My Fisher 1265 hits it maybe once every third swing. My Wilson RC ll hits it about every other swing. My Tesoro Golden Sabre no chance. Have not tried my Minelab Sovereign on it yet since burying it last weekend.

In my humble experience the CTX wins that category.

If you rely on target ID on whether to dig or not, I'd bet you are walking over some good targets.

Explorer series and CZ's due a good job in my dirt, however really deep or turned coins can be a problem for any unit...

The old Teknetics from the 1980's were very accurate on ID's at depth, the old 8000, 8500 and 9000.
You don't see them around now hardly at all?
Next up was the old White's 6000DiPro...that had good separation.
These days, best I've seen would include the Safari...

WOW! I didn't know the Mark 1 had that kind of depth!
Interesting, thanks for the input!!

Pretty uniform set of opinions, nearly always including the CZ's.

Im an Explorer guy and NEVER relied on the Ferr/Con numbers..... there was more reliability in the open screen and FBS is the only machine with that ablity i believe.
