Even primary security personal will tell the homeowner that deadbolts on the doors and iron bars over the windows are not to necessarily keep the street sludge out but to make them go to the neighbors house where entry is easier.
I think it's clear Tom may need to consider keeping up with the Jones'.

Now we have some dialog. Thank you. When people look at any thread and give it an honest look they will see what it is about and find it is not always what it may appear if a person does not give it that honest look. When that happens they may just assume that it is something negative as you tried to portray her.
I don't encourage people to jack anybody around but you can have fun if that is your aim and you stick with what you start and control your actions. The detector thread you you referenced I only allowed to run on e-bay when there was no harm being done to anyone and I did not let it run and get to the point of people sending messages or having any trouble with it there. There is a difference between that and letting it run causing people confusion and using them in a negative way. It was posted there when a lot of attention was being paid to e-bay regarding detector sales. I jumped on that.
The outcome as you can see by actually reading the thread from here that you posted will show that people had fun with it and that was my introduction to this forum. There was no name calling or negativity involved and it was the people of this forum that picked up on the listing and I came here and socialized with them. If you consider that feeding the trolls you will have to take that up with the posters of that thread. I found them to be nice people.

I'll comment on the knitting thread without going there to check it out as I have not been there in a while. I was always up front with the people there and also wherever I talked about it. The initial reason for going there was to make connections that may be beneficial not just for me but for the members of that forum. Any connections there were to possibly trade services for rights to detect. I did not have to share that with anyone but I did to encourage people to try to make connections and earn a chance to detect someone's property rather than the random door knocking that I don't feel is good for the hobby. I chose the knitting forum not only because of the potential good sites but I knew people would remember it as that type of site often comes up in metal detecting circles.

There really wasn't a problem with the site in regards to me as I was always up front with my goals there. I was not sure I would ever make connections with someone there but was looking at it as a long term possibility only after I was well known there. I gave them my name and address so I don't think calling me a troll in regards to that site is fair but I am not surprised. The last time I visited the site was to try and repair the damage a poster from another site tried to do to me because we were on different sides of issues on that detecting forum. I never attempted to retaliate by stooping as low as him and he was told by a moderator on the open forum that what he did to me there was a permanent ban offense. He did not get a permanent ban but I received permanent damage to what could have been a nice adventure. That's okay as I realize there is often a price to pay for doing things that are out of the "norm" but I enjoy them as much as I can.

If you have any questions about the two examples you furnished, again, feel free to ask. This is your second attempt at name calling and accusations and again they are no match for the facts,

Kemper, why not give it a break. It might be hard to believe but forum members on metal detecting forums want to talk about metal detecting.

This is interesting. This page gives the country location of visitors to Tom's site. Nearly 50% are US based, no surprise, but notice that second on the list, with a whopping 26%, is France. Yet I can't recall a single French poster on here (there must be some?). It could be that these are some of the visitors - they are just passive readers, so don't need to register/sign in. And they may never post, because of the language barrier.
Maybe the thread title should be changed to "Salut tout les visiteurs"....

Related to this, I occasionally view a couple of French detecting forums, mainly to see the finds, which are similar in nature to UK finds. I can read enough French to get an idea of what's going on, but my schoolboy French is too poor for me to make a contribution, so I've never registered.

Good post and yes, interesting. It is these visitors to metal detecting sites that are often overlooked. While we sometimes get into these heated discussions on metal detecting issues we should keep in mind that people are watching. We should try to keep the facts separated from the BS. Of course, nothing wrong with trying to make things fun. We can take a look at this thread and see if anyone tried to do that.

Maybe the French visitors are looking at GMP/Deus-related topics? Eg. Toms detailed test threads on them?

Maybe so. Maybe also looking at some of the other things on Tom's main page that are not specific to metal detectors but rather other aspects of the hobby. We don't know and it is not a concern of mine but whatever they are looking for I hope the name callers and attackers do not discourage them.

Your post just now is worthless garbage cluttering up this fine forum like the spammer posts. You obviously have WAY too much time on your hands. There was a glimmer of hope with you but now you are reverting...please just stick to metal detecting and that's it...please stop with the youtube song links...it's long beyond getting old

Oh lighten up. Your post here is nothing to brag about. My post is not cluttering up anything and you don't have to click on the link but can still notice the record number of guests. anyway here is a thread by you that has nothing to do with metal detecting. At least mine was about this metal detecting forum----[www.dankowskidetectors.com]

I'm about fed up with Aholes like you coming on my threads and attacking me. Maybe I should act like you to fit in. Since you are a physician maybe you can figure out a way to get your head out of your @ss. Maybe you think your average of a post every month makes you somewhat superior. Maybe you can't enjoy what you like to do here without attacking someone ,unless that is what you enjoy. Who are you to decide whether or not I am a " glimmer of hope " that is "reverting" ? Since you think I have WAY too much time on my hands as you put it. Maybe I should post a link to a video that is on topic to your post.

If you ignore this advice from the authority here- " If you find that a contributor’s postings are not worth reading, then you can chose not to read them. In short, I will not choose for you, just about everything is left here to read. " and come on my thread then I feel like it is not unfair to not let you slide. So here @hole., turn it up---[www.youtube.com]

Please leave posters alone, we may not like their view but they have a right to post their view, simply ignore if not interested. Just get along. HH

c'mom kemp buddy! it's too much! keep the comments centered on "metal detecting" and skip the drama!
this is a very good forum with people helping people with how to get more out of the hobby!..you really don't want others to
really think somebody else does your f**cking for you!,,,do you?

Well yesterday I mowed grass for 3 hours, a very informative experience. More than reading this thread.

Why do I indulge,... well it is raining outside.
You simply can't beat the down to earth feeling of walking behind a mower for 3 hours, waiting for the bag to fill and then tipping it out on the compost heap!
Sun was shining and in the process sold a few power-tools. A welcome break from the lawn duty :-)

After the mowing headed into the shop, sharpened the blade and removed excess mulch from the lawnmower.
Ready for the next outing, next week.

No need to insult people, just give them a Lawn Mower.

As for people filling up forums with

I was quoting the OK Corrall Sheriff smiling smiley plus the fact that word has too very distinct meaning

All have different meanings, just as too and two aren't interchangeable. I know what, let's have a spelling contest. Sorry couldn't resist. LOL. There we can now be friends.
