New Black Tesoro Vaquero
September 02, 2015 05:49PM
I couldn't help myself, so I ordered one from Rusty. It's sooooo pretty and works great with the new DD coil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rusty Henry convinced me to purchase a 5.75 inch concentric search coil awhile back, because he said it was a really good search coil and would pay for itself in no time at all. It did exactly that! Rusty's latest advice to me was to get the new RSD 8 x 11 wide-scan search coil. His advice is always great.

What I really like best about the new RSD 8 x 11 inch wide-scan coil is its light weight and being able to cover lots of ground with each sweep. It's the same weight as the 8 x 9 inch concentric coil, so now I can easily cover those large open areas without wearing my arm out. Detecting is suppose to be fun, not painful.

After doing some testing with the new search coil I found it to be just as deep or maybe a tad deeper than the 8 x 9 inch concentric search coil in my mild soil. I'm guessing that the new search coil will perform even better for those users who detect in soil with a high mineral content since wide-scan search coils normally do better in that type soil.

The buyer now has the choice of purchasing a new Vaquero, Cibola and Tejon with the 8 x 9 inch concentric search coil or with the new RSD 8 x 11 inch wide-scan search coil for only a few dollars more.

I'm not sure how long the special is going to last on being able to get the Vaquero, Cibola and Tejon in black. Only certain dealers were able to get them and it's my understanding that they are limited in number. The most important thing is that I got mine! LOL

Both Vaquero detectors were set up the same, but using different search coils. The discrimination was set to where a iron nail just barely discriminated out. In this test Tesoro's new RSD 8 x 11 inch wide-scan search coil handles the flat iron better than the 9 x 8 inch concentric search coil does. I don't know why, but it does.

BTW, I like to add a bright piece of duct tape to my search coils for a concentration point. It makes pinpointing easier.

Pinpointing is a breeze with Tesoro's new RSD 8 x 11 inch wide-scan search coil. It's lightening fast, it gets really good depth and separates well. It's lightweight! It weighs the same as the 8 x 9 inch concentric coil.

They have a Goldmine in the Tejon if they would capitalize on it...

Blacks a Nice clean look for the unit's...But I like the Grey very well also...yuo sort of know its a 'HOT' tech by seeing it from afar...never was a Bright Gold Pole fan..the dull gold was O.K.

Wish they would give the BLACK Tejon in the Euro option for us here..

Colors and coils .....maybe they will release a machine next..

Thank's for the info..

Keith, Tesoro just started selling the new BLACK Tejon with the new search coil option for the market here in the states..

I wish Tesoro would make the changes that you're talking about in this video: [www.youtube.com]

That coil has already been out for awhile now.---I gotta have more in a detector than just a different paint job!

Yeah Tesoro's new RSD 8 x 11 inch search coil has been out for a few months or so. For those who don't already own a Cibola, Vaquero or Tejon, buyers now have the option of purchasing one with the standard 9 x 8 inch concentric search coil or with the new RSD 8 x 11 inch wide-scan search coil for about ten bucks more. I already had the grey Vaquero and the new search coil, but I couldn't help myself when I heard it was being offered in black. I'm a sucker for a pretty lady.

The BLACK Tejon Im sure is not the EURO BLACK Tejon,, Tab...

The Euro Tejon has some work done to the disc for broader nail range spread fine tuning and also a Preset and manul ground bal option ...

Doubt we could be so lucky to have that Broader spread on disc..

Thanks. I plan on getting some serious detecting time in with the new search coil as soon as we get some decent rain. The ground around here is like concrete!

I have some large open areas in mind where I want to test the new search coil. I'll post my findings.

Tesoros are still the 'standard' by which all others are judged for hunting iron infested sitesthumbs down

....The ED-120 circuit that Jack designed 25 years ago is still at the top, the Outlaw carries on the tradition of excellence.

Yep! When the discrimintion on the Outlaw is set to its minimum, most common iron nails are discriminated out. When I get a good audio signal and the first thing out of the hole is a nail, I start smiling, because I know that's not what the Outlaw is sounding off on. I've found lots of silver coins in the same hole with nails that probably got missed by others at hard hit sites.

But Keith, perhaps a specific site machine is not a great seller? Maybe they could widen it up a bit, use wise...
Wouldn't it make more sense to try to get a VID on the Tejon and make it both a coin hunter and relic or maybe add some nice coin shooting features? (I'm talking from an economic perspective.)
I agree, Tesoro has been sitting on something but haven't advanced it at all. Very strange.

Keith,
Don't think Tesoro factory guys get it.
Guess its much easier to put on new colors and a new coil and call it a new machine, than
it is to hire an qualified electronics engineer that can remaster the Tejon to your liking. They then
could have a winner. Guess all they want to do is make some money to scrape thru until retirement,
so they are taking the easy way out.

As soon as Rusty retires, that's one day closer to locked doors.

DeepTech Vista X with 3 search coils.
Works for me

I agree Rusty Henry is the best and certainly a plus for Tesoro....

As far as colors I understand overseas Tesoro's are different colors....heck the next one might be pink for the ladies....

Am currently testing the newer UK "Laser Trident ll" and liking it.

Better than the 'older' "Vaquero" especially in the Ferrous ID area.

Only fly in ointment was 2 requests from "the guys at Tesoro" asking:
"Can you tell me why this new coil is better?"
( I would like to reference it in my test report. )

The first reply advised they'd get back to me.
Second came weeks later and was advised get in touch with the "Distributor" saying "they should be able to tell you what you want to know"
But I don't believe they can.

Sent 2 further requests past 2 days to Az so am holding my breath!

But, I remain disappointed especially since I was a re-seller in the eighties and on familiar terms with the late (and great) Jack Gifford

I didn't like the 10 x 12 wide-scan coil at all, because it made my Vaquero way too nose heavy. This new RSD 8 x 11 inch wide-scan coil gets around the same depth as the 8 x 9 inch concentric coil does and is the same weight. It's testing really well for me. I'm waiting on some rain to do some field testing with it. The ground around here is like concrete!

Re: New Black Tesoro Vaquero

The RSD coil is a great addition from Tesoro if you like their kind of machines and hunt in bad ground. You'll see some increased depth over the stock 9x8 concentric coil with it in bad ground. BUT at the same time...the NEL 5X8 coil gets the same depth as the RSD.

Here is something interesting though...or I found it interesting.

I have been hunting the site where my house is going to be. We have cleared off the place it is going to sit, and also cleared my driveway. It has been a pine thicket since the 1950s, and before that, was part of the side yard of an 1850s house. I bought a Tejon to hunt that site before we put anything on it....and have found a few musket balls, a pocket knife, and a few iron pieces. There are a lot of pieces of tin roof there though...that the Tejon seemed to really like. For the most part though, it was pretty clean and I have hunted it several times with the Tejon and stock coil, the NEL Sharpshooter, and the RSD coil. The last time I hunted it, I didn't even get a signal that I dug.

Well I took my new to me Racer in there the other day with the 5x10 coil. I hunted the same cleared area as I had been hunting with the Tejon. I was surprised at the amount of iron signals the Racer was reporting...vs the Tejon that seemed to give the indication that there just wasn't that amount of iron there. I didn't find much in the way of good keepers but I did dig several non iron signals. Which surprised me...cause I had been over this place pretty good. Now I could see me missing something small, like a .22 casing or bullet. But I dug 2 pretty big pieces of brass harmonica reed, and several deep 20 gauge shotgun shell hulls, that should have been easy pickin' but for whatever reason, I didn't dig them when hunting with the Tejon.
Re: New Black Tesoro Vaquero

Interesting Daniel------Were you hunting in 2 or 3 tones & what was your sensitivity set at?
Re: New Black Tesoro Vaquero
September 05, 2015 10:08PM
2 tone and 70 on Sens. I kept I.D. at 10 but was almost drove batty by the amount of fast double blip signals that were reading 18-20. I assumed these were nails; did not dig any of them. I eventually raised I.D. to 20 just to cut some of the noise out.

I also ran into some signals that would give a 40s signal one way, then a 20 from another direction. I dug one of these and it was a heavy gauge screw. I had the small OOR coil but did not use it. After just an hr I was ringing wet with sweat...not very comfortable in blue jeans. I will have plenty of time to hunt in cooler conditions.

Thats what I mean Daniel when i say it smakes it almost like your cheating..

You can bare down on a iron site for years then Take the Racer/CoRe in and find the full gamut of targets sizes and conductivity..

Unique for sure.

Hope you get a Great find out of there.

I use the UK version of this new Vaquero with the 11x8 coil on,its called the Laser Trident11 Extreme, which has been breathed on with a few additional features, its taken some time to GEL with machine but gradually i am liking it more, just ordered the Mars Sniper 10x6 coil for it which will probably become the everyday use coil. The Extreme version not only come with the manual GB but also can be fixed if required.

Its a lovely lightweight machine and as light as my Deus, the 11x8 coil is great for more open pasture use i guess and is reasonably deep as well.

I have owned a dozen Tesoro detectors. I like Rusty at Tesoro, but I purchased a brand new SEALED Tesoro Vaquero from Windy City Detectors and the wires were pinched by the faceplate...two of the wires were visible. I unscrewed the two screws and pushed them gently back under. I called Tesoro because the detector was acting strange....and he ARGUED with me that it was impossible that the faceplate had pinched the wires and that it would have never left the factory that way. Lesson learned...I should have taken a picture first...but he probably still wouldn't have believed me.

Windy City Detectors resolved the issue for me.

Funny you should mention that - I asked them a while back about Pink Compadre's for the more feminine hunters - lol

I suppose I should not have egged them on like that - winking smiley
