Top Tips Teknetics T2

Hi all,

I'd be interested in hearing any tips you guys might have when detecting with your T2 "original"
Back in '07, I had used one extensively and found it quiet and mostly docile while remaining super sensitive!
Last few outings another one (acquired recently in Mint condition) has been 'sparky' to say the least while still remaining sensitive e.g. to small 'fly buttons' in stubble.
Soils not even registering much Fe3o4 levels on the display.

1. I hunt in 1+ Tone to "acquire best response" and check the signal in the other tone choices.
2. I use the Freq Select from 7 - 1 ( got it really quiet yesterday) as I was moving away from a noise source?
3. I GB Manually
4. I use Threshold to do this (Hum Level +1)

Has anyone fitted ferriites to the coil cable close to the plug connection area?

Good Hunting

"Wow! No expert T2 users here I guess?"

Des, I imagine lots of people viewed your thread because they thought you were dispensing lots of tips, rather than asking for them. Maybe a question-mark in the title would've been more appropriate?
Also, I think you'll find many of the T2 users on here will have the SE/Ltd (boost/cache etc) version, and probably the newer DST /Fa-mode equipped version, too, so may not have tips specific to the standard model.
And the machine has been on the market for 8 years now, so there's an abundance of tips & tricks already written about it. Almost certainly on this Forum, too.

For what it's worth, I recently asked for advice on cache/deep-target hunting with the F75, and got no reply, either.

Regarding the ferrite bead, there are many Forum threads across the net about them, and the concensus of opinion is that they do absolutely nothing to reduce interference pick-up, but they might lessen the interference generated by the digital electronics inside the machine, should you be benevolently concerned about other people's TV reception, cell-phone performance etc. For a start, the ferrite is fitted in the wrong place - it's the coil that picks up most of the interference, so the ferrite needs to go on the pertinent coil wires inside the control box. Some of the newer First Texas machines do have such a device. Keith S. posted pics of the internals of a recent Teknetics G2, and a 'binocular' bead was fitted over 4 wires near the coil connector.

I recreated this arrangement on my Fisher F75, but saw no discernable effect on EMI pickup.
The other place interference may be picked up is directly by the control box. Though it is internally shielded (with conductive graphite paint) there is of course a dirty great hole in it, where the LCD is. So a specialist EMI-proof shield could be installed across that. Also the electronics could be more directly screened, eg. with metal screening 'cans' or similar, as used in other equipment like cell-phones, TV's. All of these are rather advanced methods, that may achieve nothing. It depends somewhat on the nature of the interference, eg. the frequency of it, whether it's pulsed or continuous...

Thanks for your informative comments Pimento.
I appreciate it.

Yeah...I hadn't used the T2 in several years so thought I'd ask a question or two on here.

Good or should I report "better news" past two days: I might have had a looser-than-I'd-like coil cable, as it enters the box.
The plastic & nylon screen protector I feel inhibited a [great connection]
So much quieter now.

One thing on the original T2 was a Deep iron grunt at normal sweep speeds at times will turn to a Non ferrous tone witha more brisk sweep speed....

Im talking about past 10 inch items that usually dont show an I.D. but gives a iron tone... speed up the sweep right over the exact spot of the grount and if it goes Higher tone you better investigate..its a 2 filter unit but for some reason it likes a brisk sweep on the deepies..

Thanks Keith.
I did notice that exact thing Monday last.

I'm getting the coil connector PLUG modified with some heat shrink rubber.
It's a weak plug and should really have been wrapped instead of bare metal.

Pimento, I'm familiar with ferries [inside] the control box.
I won't be doing that.
