Need some help and a lesson learned
October 22, 2015 12:44AM
A fella sent me his Tesoro Compadre's control box and coil to have me install a coil connector in the housing and a plug on the coil wire so he could change coils. I should of took a picture or two before I started, I know what wires needs to be soldered to the pins on the connectors and plugs but the ground/black wire that comes from the battery box brole off the circuit board and I am not sure where it goes. There is only the two wires that comes from the battery box the red and the black wire. Not sure if there is a picture that shows where it goes or if any of you might know or could take a look in your Compadre. I would be very geatful for any info. Thanks! Steve skiwhiz1960@gmail.com

Guess you learned about Tesoros stiff wires and how crappy their solder joints can be so they easily break off.

I couldn't find a picture.

But look real hard where the red battery wire is soldered, the black wire I think will be soldered about 1/2" to 1" higher than the red wire is. look at the solder pads with a magnifying glass.
Should be able to see several strands broken flush with the solder joint. If your red wire runs along the side.

If you battery wire is up near the top middle, then the solder pad could be to the right of the red.

DeepTech Vista X with 3 search coils.

Thanks Sven, first time I have ever had an issue doing anything w/ a Tesoro. I might take it to work with me tomorrow and look at it under a scope.

Look on the back of the board...youll see where the wire comes through....there easy to find...Wire holes are huge compared to resistotr holes and such..

Ive done quiet a few of the compadre coil mods.....MAKE SURE you get the wires right on the plug ...

Skiwiz,
I finished putting a pigtail on my Compadre last night so I could run my Cleansweep coil on it. Turned out real nice. I used the connector off an extension cable.

There are a couple of different Compadre boards floating aroud.

If your board has the coil wires all attaching along the edge of the board then I have a photo that can help you.

If your coil wires attach in the middle of the board, then you will find that they attach on either side of those square caps in Cadmans picture (those large offwhite rectanglar things). One wire connects to each side. Your black wire will attach to one side of the bottom cap.

oh wait.....re-reading your post...you need the black BATTERY wire....again....that depends on what board you have.

Good luck.
Send me a PM if you need to.
Mike

If you have the holes across the bottom that's a good un..There mostly hot....

the layer ones are hit and miss with depth...although you can do a boost mod to the sens pot ...but at the same time look for the older compadre shiny poles old thick white coil..there the hottest..

there's 4 version of compadres..

better yet find an amigo 2 and mod it..

tot lot jewelry killer..

Keith said... "better yet find an amigo 2 and mod it." What mods are you talking about? coil connectors or sensitivity mod? My Amigo 2 is stock with the 7" concentric coil and it is set right from the factory, in my mild soil it is as deep as my other Tesoros. The little one knob wonder is great for the grandkids and property owners who are curious about the hobby.
