It appears that the newer technology is able to receive and respond to weaker signals that the target creates. If this is the case does that explain why EMI is more of an issue with higher frequency detectors?

Thank you for the replies. I ran my AKA through the 3 different frequencies over the same area and they all picked up the same signals, no difference. But It wasn't a true test.

Different frequency question? Excluding the multiple frequency machines that Minelabs makes.
Has anyone tested different frequencies in a test garden? And if someone has, what were the results?
From reading different forums it seems that with today's technology there is no difference in depth between a 14 kHz and a 3 kHz machine, unlike the past where the lower frequency would be more

I use the sound first and then check the signal stregnth to make sure it falls into the proper parameters, after that I have more confidence on the hodograph and vdi.

Hi Aaron, I'm guessing its the sink rate because it is about ten yards from the creek, which floods occasionally, but the real amazing part is that the six inch coil hit so deep.

I went to my local park that's been around forever, I mean there was an Indian tribe living near it. Like I said people have been there for ever. Since they've been there so long the amount of rusty steel bottle caps is huge and then on top of them are the beaver tails and newer.
I recently purchased the Aka Signum with a sniper coil in addition to the three frequency 9.5x 12.5 DD c

I had the opportunity to go out today for a couple of hours. The temperature was 32 degrees with a gusty wind, still not the best day to go out and hunt. But the snow is gone in the lowlands and the ground is not frozen. Went to a local park that connects to a school field.
The Signum performed great! Im very happy with the Signum. It was easy to hear good signals and any signal that I was uns

Silverhound I ordered directly from Moscow and it made it to the USA in a day or two, and then customs took several days it arrived in great shape. I wont hesitate to order from them again. Just make sure the face plate is in English. Mine is in Russian which is no big deal since I can read basic Russian, and I was told in advance that is the way it would be delivered.
One thing I didn't

Possum Mo I used the 3 frequency 9.5 x 12.5 coil. And I believe the soil was not mineralized or very little. The gb on the signum said negative 4.
Silverhound I hit the dime at 14 inches, and not 16. Sorry for the confusion. The next time I do the test I will dig deeper.

Finally the weather cooperated, the snow melted, and I had a couple of hours of free time. Went to my local field that was farm land many years ago.
I dug a hole and put a silver dime 14 inches deep and covered it up and tamped down the earth. I used the 14 kHz DD coil. The GB came out to -4 which I guess is fairly neutral. I tried each default program 1 being the least aggressive, program 2 f

I don't think you need to adjust the sensitivity of the RT and ST separately, here is a quote from the manual
"Gain [1..10] This parameter is used to set the sensitivity of the device in the Real Time and Identification channels at the same time. In most cases, we recommend that this value is not set to more than 7. Smaller values can be useful, for example, to search for large objec

Tom after trying your experiment in "Beneath the Mask" although in a miniscule way in a 6 ft by 6 ft section. After 3.5 hours I am exhausted. And I only did less then a 3 by 6 area. Pulling out all trash. I even cheated a bit by putting the f75 in JE mode, disc1, and tone 1, Sens. 99. . Then I went over the same area in the BP , and found smaller trash such as tiny foil. Maybe I'l

Thanks Tom.
The article explains what I have experienced especially thinking that that the detector had little ability to go deep.
Can the new ctx3030 see through the mask?

I hunt in Glenham park with creek along side of it. The spot I hunt is near the creek and under a shade tree. Even though the park is from the 1970s the area has been populated since the 1700s. I had high hopes for this park but it has to much trash.
I hunt there only because its close to me. My finds have been clad and one wheat penny. After a year or so I seem to have it cleaned it out.

My best find yet using the F75 ltd. It is completely worn on one side and beat up on the other side but you can still make it out. It was down about three inches.

Would this treatment help in cleaning the coin? Or isvit to far gone?
When a specimen is very thin, fragile, has fine detail, or is nearly or completely mineralized, any acid treatment may be too severe. In these cases, the artifact can be soaked in a 5-15 percent solution of sodium hexametaphosphate (Plenderleith and Werner 1971:255) to convert the insoluble calcium and magnesium salts in th

Thanks Tom and Ozzie,
I know of a very trashy sight that has been used since the early 1800s, There is only a few inches of earth before hitting rock so everything is at the same depth. It has been very frustrating trying to work the area. Any suggestions?

My question, is it worth setting the sensitivity to 99 (assuming its remains stable), and discrimination to max, and 4h on tones. Id like to search for deep and old coins, and not hear any of the lower tones, or noise. Or is it better to go monotone/disc at 6 or less, and dig anything that is beyond 8 inch in depth?

I'm back : )
First I would like to say, Thoms videos are fantastic! A ton of great information that helped me out a lot!
I have been experimenting with the Infinium on land a few times in the past couple weeks. Today I finally went to the beach while the tide was going out. I GBed the unit, set the threshold at 4, disc at 0, and went with the stock coil, and found that the MD was was v

Thanks for the reply Rover.
I did not think the frequency was an issue because other then those two signals it was very stable, thats why I thought I had something there. I did not ground balance I guess that is the next thing to try when I set up. I want to use this unit in the Hudson river where there had been a resort next to an amusement park where the affluent played during the 1880s thr
