I'm eagerly waiting on the fixed MXS. I've seen DanielTN reviews of it in his dirt comparable to Culpeper.
I have an opportunity to go to private places in VA from a vet cw hunter and researched that MXT is a pretty decent non PI to use up there. It will definitely fill two needs for me being waterproof as I don't want to pull the trigger on an ATpro and good in hot soil.

It just so happens this Christmas I'll be in the market for something light like an Ace 150 for my 8yo boy. I take him along with me now and he runs the pinpointer after i dig the plug. His attention span is getting better I just need to have him practice cutting neat plugs.

You can use web gis to lookup parcel owner information if your county has it. It's awesome to use along with google earth. Here's an example http://gis.co.guilford.nc.us/guilfordjs/ Hope that helps.

That's what I was thinking. You would need too big of a panel and it would add weight to the machine.

Keith have you ever tried apple cider vinegar on iron? I saw a vid with a guy cleaning up old ax heads he soaked them for a few weeks, wire brushed and they looked pitted but terrific.

Thanks for that nugget Keith. I'm finding that researching the places to look is as rewarding as the hunting. Well naw not really.
I'm chasing local lore and tied stories together to find some truths. I made friends with a farm owner this week that has his land written in local history going back to rev war era.
I couldn't handle the all the square nails in one place along the r

Thanks for all the helpful replies.
You're right I'm going to use what I have now and see what I pull out. I'm kinda putting the carriage ahead of the horse. But useful info none the less for what to look for in a next purchase.

QuotetnsharpshooterPut the stock coil 7x11" on your Racer. go to your sites and check some other areas as well. Bob you coil over clean ground. How much of the mineralization pie gets shaded??? If it's half or less that's not too bad a soil. You see the pie shaded to 9 oclock or further around---hot stuff--see 5 bar comments below. If the pie gets shaded more than half but not to t

I forgot to add something to compliment the racer. Maybe a PI machine like a TDI? What should I look for that would be best bang for the buck nowadays.

Hi folks,
I'd like to start out with a thanks for all the unbiased reviews I read on this forum. I'm using a Racer for some old homestead sites and still learning it more as I go but I really like it and it's a big bump up from my F2 hah.
From doing research I've located some spots that have been fordings and encampments in mostly fielded areas, some plowed some not.
