Thank goodness for the rural areas. Where i live is mostly farming communities. My searching consists mostly of old fairgrounds, campmeeting grounds, and chautauqua sites. Most of these sites are now farm fields. Funny but i use a leshe hand digger at these sites and always fill my holes back in. Once in awhile in the early spring or late fall when the ground is really wet i may hit a private y

Have to agree with you Dan. And of the three I believe site is the most important. If it isnt there your not going to find it. Go to the library and go through old newspapers and microfilms.Go to the courthouse and go over old land records. Study old plat maps of your area.Talk to old timers. For the past 4yrs. I had been trying to find an old 1850s fairground a couple counties away. The ground h

Could not agree more with you Dan on the research part. Going over county history books, newspapers, microfilms, maps, the courthouse for land records and of course the old timers can be a wealth of information. I have always thought 90 % of metal detecting is research, 7% is actually finding the site, and 3% the actual metal detecting. Have been working three sites for the last 4yrs. that i foun

Have been metal detecting 40yrs. this month ( started when i was 16) My first detector was a Frontiersman by relco ( laugh ) then a whites 1db, next a garrett 3, then a garrett master hunter 7 which i ran from 1986 to 2006. In 2007 i purchased a cz-3d and have found more quality coins with it in 5yrs. then in the previous35. Have found 3 cent pieces ( silver and nickel ), half dimes, two-cent pi

My mom came from a family of 11 brothers and sisters who grew up during the depression. I had an uncle who passed away in 2004 and when his brothers and sisters { my aunts and uncles} were getting things ready for auction they found a safe in his bedroom closet with a chain and padlock wrapped around it.I was there when they opened it and we counted $ 50,000 dollars in it. Then in 2008 i had an

There would be no problem with s.s. if our GOVERNMENT had left it alone. Started BORROWING from it in the 60s i believe. Used it to fund other things. Last i heard they had BORROWED 1.7 trillion from it. So they owe this much back to s.s. plus the 3 percent intrest.

my 3center hits on sq. tab also. had it recalibrated by Tom in 08. Dug it because i was working an old campmeeting ground where i had found a bunch of older coins. No complaints though because my half dime, shield nickels, 2 centers, and older indians all come in hi-tone. Mike

Hi Steve. I think your detector is fine. I purchased mine from Kellyco in Jan. of 07, it just has the white sticker and number 11060257. Sent mine to Tom in 08 to be recalibrated. Tom says mine was made Feb 11 of 06. If this is correct then i belive yours was made Jan 10 of 06. You can tell by the serial number what month, day, and year it was made. Hope this helps. Mike.

Have to agree. Purchased the video when i got my cz-3d, watched it a couple of times before i took the detector out. Has alot of good information which can save you a bunch of digging nails and iron.

I thought it was gold but having no carat markings had me wondering. Have been metal detecting for 38yrs and been through a lot of detectors. I have to say the CZ-3D is hands down the best detector for my style of hunting. I only hunt about 3 months out of the year. A month and a half in spring and a month and a half in the fall. This is because I hunt fields where fairs, campmee

Found what I believe is a woman's wide wedding band gold ring Saturday while hunting an old Chautauqua site (1895-1912). The ring rang up high-tone in enhanced mode and sq. tab mid-tone in salt mode. I know most gold rings ring up in the round tab, foil, and sq. tab icon. I have a man's class ring that comes in high-tone in enhanced and sq. tab in salt. There are no carat markings in th

Have to agree with Dan-Pa on a properly tuned CZ-3D. Had mine recalibrated by NASA Tom back in July. Due to the ground being so dry and hard had not been out. But about a week ago ( Sept.13 ) we had 5 inches of rain in two days, went to my mom's house and in about a two hour span I managed to pull out 2 Indian Heads ( 1893,1902) 1 mercury dime ( 1943 ) and a 1946 nickel. All the coins but t

I see in your post where you talk about the CZ-3D loving nails. I find if I work a 1/2 to 3/4 circle around the object and if it stays hi-tone the whole time it is usually a coin. A nail on the other hand will usually drop from hi-tone to iron and back. Hope this helps.

Bill,
Might consider a coil bigger than a stock. I know if the cattle have been in there off and on over the years a lot of times they will have a tendency to push targets deeper in the ground, especially when the ground is soft after a rain, or when ground thawa in spring. ( in my state anyway ) Just a thought. Mike
