Spent the day wading in a site near NASA_Toms home territory. Not the beach, way better coin wise.
My wife was also working the rocks, tree roots and waters edge with her new Vibratector 730 and hit over half of the quarters, a good share of the weights and pennies. For some reason I seemed to be on a dime streak further out. This is from waters edge to waist deep. Used my favorite 5x8 DD coil.

Well, I broke down and bought the disc. Yup, you've shortened my learning curve for sure! One thing I picked up quick was I was hunting to far down the slope. Yes, i still made some finds but they were few. Just the density stratification lesson was worth the price. Thanks alot!

That's a great quote, I 'm going to have to remember that one!

I'll be watching this one! For one thing I'm interested in the machine if I can ever afford one and I have this coil on my Etrac. it now pretty much lives there. I'm very happy with it.

I just thought this might be interesting. Why metal detecting? What drew you to it, what keeps you at it, what makes it fun?
My wife and I came to the hobby as a team and hunt as a team. After more then ten years of severe health issues and being unable to walk, speak or even swallow solid food and knocking on deaths door several times my wife was given the unbelievable gift of a nearly normal

I have to give a few managers around here credit. Two seperate places they have followed me around for a few digs and told me I was welcome to come back any time. They also made it clear there were others who were not welcome back. I wish there were more of them. We even have a county manager nearby who told some of her park managers that they probably had more damage from animals and kids then t

We fight some of the same battles around here. Unfortunately a few of the local MD club "hot shots" are some of the worst offenders. I have one park I hunt where the manager has told me that my partner and I are welcome but will eject most others, especially the "hot shots" if caught. This one guy will dig a sloppy looking hole throw any trash on the ground beside it and the s

That's a really good point. I have a very old homesite on the edge of a public park that's hard hunted for decades. I've hit it at some odd angles and while I don't find a lot I still make a few finds.

I use DetectorPro Rattlers. One sided. I like the way the sounds work with both my Etrac and AT-Prp. I have a fair amount of high range loss and they deliver highs that I can hear clearly. I like one sided because I want to hear what is around me as well as the machine. In the woods around here we have feral hogs, rattlesnakes and some other critters I want to be able to hear. In the city parks t

If I'm on the beach with my Etrac and conditions allow I hunt in PP. It has hit targets that I lose when I got to even an open screen in normal hunting mode. If there's much black sand around though it can get kind of chattery. I have hit a matchbox truck at a measured 18" in dry sand one time though. Pretty good for that machine on the beach.

Hey Seeker 41 I've made about eight trips out to the beach this summer from central FL, two to your area. You're right it's been a dismal year. Scored one whole piece of gold jewelry, one plated, junk and clad. Even the few times there's been erosion it's shallow and not really productive. Looks like you've still made some really good finds though considering conditi

Yup, call Garrett and you might be surprised at how cheap they are! I needed connector covers for my coils and they wouldn't take my money!

All but about 18 coins on the AT-Pro with 5x8 in a few modern parks. I like it especially in around the playgrounds. In the open fields I confess to using my E-Trac with 13" Ultimate coil.
Lots of pennies but dug very little trash. I'll take pennies over trash any day!
80 pennies (1 a 1946 wheat)
8 nickels
12 Dimes
7 quarters
1 old brass coat hanger
1 key
1 ring

We'll have to hook up and let you run an AT with a 5x8 then for sure. Hunt pretty much every weekend! Not against a bit of a drive either.

USAF 1978-1986, SSgt. Spent 7 of my 8 years on FE Warren AFB, Wyoming. Finished as a Site Mama (launch facility manager). Was the youngest in the USAF when I took the job. Never could get off that blasted base!

I've had one since the first batch of 5x8's were delivered. Pretty much lives on my machine, even when wading. My first outing was in a bar's dirt parking lot where I tested it's abilities in separating pull tabs a bottle caps from coins. Did very good. A few times I literally rested it on the grass and wiggled it slightly to see if that little tone in between the trash was re

Ordinance and demining detectors are usually both deep and sensitive to ferrous and non ferrous. The newest breed of nonmetal mines only have a few small bits of metal in them. They are usually simple to use, rugged and field repairable. Don't think they do much discrimination. In a search like that you really do check all your targets!
