Sounds like the 11" DD coil, at least in your ground, IDs a little better than my 10" concentric. I appreciate the info. I'll see if things ID any better after the bed is well-watered; if not, I may want to try the 11" DD -- I have heard it's a great coil for the F70, and what I've seen of it on my Gold Bug, I'm really liking it...

Gotcha; I'd be interested in hearing multi-tones that you have experience are "good" tones...trying to find the "good" bouncy tones from the iron falses is tough...!

No problem at all. I'll test whatever you wish...

That's some great info, Tommy. Great story about your standing liberty under the pull tab, and how the tab will pull the coin ID down...obviously in your case it pulled it down into the zinc range.
What do you mean exactly when you say "when I get a multi tone?" I struggle so much with iron falsing that it's hard for me NOT to get a "multi tone" on nearly every

go-rebels: I'll run the hose/sprinklers on it as you say; appreciate the advice.
Tommy -- interesting that you also seem to get alot of "13" VDIs with that 10" stock coil. The only 11" DD coil I have is the one with my Gold Bug; I do have the 5" DD for the F70 which I haven't run through the bed yet; one thing I plan to test is the 5" F70 coil on the G

I know what groundscanner is referring to, though. When you start off in "program 1" and you run through the settings, the defaults are sens. 60, disc. 15, speed dE, thresh -3 (I think), tones 3 (I think), and notch 1. I think "notch 1" is "no notch being used," as no category of metal at the top of the screen shows up as being "notched out" w

I finally built it -- the garden is 10' x 10' square, divided into 2' x 2' squares -- for a total of 32 coin locations at each vertex (not counting the four outside corners where I buried shallow washers as markers.) The garden includes zinc pennies, copper pennies, nickels, clad dimes, clad quarters, silver dimes, and silver quarters -- at multiple depths ranging from 6"

Uh oh...you too? Must be something in that Ohio Valley water! And, an understanding wife is the only reason I'm still married, I'm certain...
The "curse..."; that certainly explains it well!

Thanks for the kind words, Brad. This hobby certainly provides a great, fun challenge; for me, most challenges are enticing enough, but if you make it a challenge where seeking a "solution" or "achievement" involves a mental, scientific approach, then you have me hooked! I am a problem-solver by nature; my wife has learned the hard way not to say "this is broken, can

Preach on, Brother Brad!
Seriously, you make some great points, and your ideas about testing make complete sense. Makes me feel like an idiot that I haven't done more testing of my machines. Instead of asking so many questions, I should do more experimenting. Kind of silly when you think that you are using a piece of equipment to "see" things underground, and trying to read w

Re: g2 - 13 years ago
Mr. D --
Reading what you wrote in the "rcpt ack" thread, and what you just wrote above, would seem to me (if I am interpreting correctly) that there are very few instances, if any, where you feel the G2 would perform better (in mild soil), than the F75. Maybe equal to it, in some scenarios, but rarely exceeding? Even for gold prospecting, I know Steve Herschbach will sometimes, in

j.t. -- I hear you; since I have two similar machines to what you asked about, and have ground conditions (red clay) that you describe being interested in (light to medium mineralized soil), I'll let you know once I find enough coins in iron trash, to feel that I can give an appraisal.
My hopes with the air tests were that maybe you could get some "relative" depth info between t

I can't completely answer your question, but I have an F70 -- very similar in depth to the F75 in standard (non-boost) mode. I just got a Gold Bug Pro, a G2 in Fisher clothing.
In the past, I could air test a quarter to 14" indoors on the F70, at a setting that was "do-able," given the EMI present.
Today, in a different part of the house, with more severe EMI

mrwilburino, if you want a light, fast detector able to pull coins out of iron trash, I've heard many reputable folks say that the Fisher Gold Bug SE or Pro, or its twin -- the Teknetics G2, might be THE machine. Just thought I'd throw it out there...

I hear you on the F-70. The "boost process" is what has me intrigued with the F75/T2 LTDs...the "air gap" ability would help, I think, in some of the overgrown places I hunt. When I decided on the F70 instead (a cost issue), I presumed that it was a "second best" to an LTD. But, I will say that my opinion of the F-70 was boosted substantially (and not

I am sorry; I didn't mean to open a "can of worms." I was simply curious. I know most people love their LTDs; I don't have one, but it would be one that I'd at least think of upgrading to someday. That's really the only reason I asked.
Thanks,
Steve

What was the problem you were having, with your F75 LTD, Aaron? Just curious; I missed the story if you shared it previously.
As for the Etrac vs. F75 -- I own an F70, don't have alot of hours on it yet though, but I hunted recently with some very skilled Etrac users. The results of that hunt would have had me saying the very same things as ozzie said. If they hit a deep coin, and then

Thanks for the info on the AT-Pro, Keith. That's a pretty good testimonial.
The one thing I will say, seeker41, is that the Gold Bug Pro, according to one of the design engineers (Dave Johnson), was designed first and foremost as a gold machine. Not that others can't do the job well, but this was the focus of the engineers when building the Gold Bug Pro. In addition,if this inform

You sound like you've tried about everything, but I'll add one more thing. You mentioned in your initial post about a noisy, chatty detector that you say you "have been told is EMI." It is at least POSSIBLE that it's not. A tip I got from someone and try to keep in mind is that to find out what is causing your "chattiness," you need to determin

I also have an F70, and have been trying to learn it (I have about 30-40 hours on it), and in your post above, you said:
"Sometimes in very large lots I can run it at -1 if I am away from all buildings and power lines but closer to them I often run very close to the default settings. When I first got the machine I always felt like I couldn't get enough d

I feel the same way you do -- sometimes I think it's better to keep quiet so people only "wonder" if I am ignorant, versus opening my mouth and removing all doubt! But, on this forum, I haven't been jumped on yet for lacking knowledge -- which is good, because the longer I stay here, the more I learn. I think this is a great place to ask questions, even if you

I think this whole idea is a good one, and I will participate, and I can't wait to see how machines compare.
I think Keith's statement "sad that people will accept a machine not running right as normal for the sake of not knowing no better..." is a big part of why this needs to be done -- to EDUCATE!

This is gonna be a really cool test. Please let me know what you find out. I think I have similar soil, and I know several guys here with Etracs, and they do really well on deep silver; don't know which machine will do better with masking issues. I can't wait to hear what you learn.

I absolutely feel the same way. I love truth and straight-forwardness, and this forum has that, plus and unbelievable amount of knowledge. I've run into no one here that is not kindly willing to help and offer information, and it's no-nonsense and no BS. Great place to be if you want to learn in this hobby. Thanks everyone, and in particular, thanks Mr. Dankowski!

R2D2 on crack?!?! Now that my be the best explanation of my F70 in a trashy site, as I've ever heard!!
And Brian/Cal_cobra -- it's interesting what you said a Fisher user can do when hunting with Etrac guys to eliminate potential for silent masking (how the Etracs can pick a different frequency than what you are using -- if they "noise cancel" while you are hit
