I'm sure this is old news to you that are out hunting all the time, but it was an eye opener to me......I finally bought a 5" coil for my CZ3D and toughed out the HOT weather to try it out in my yard. I've looked in the back yard a fair amount and thought I had picked up most of the surface change. At first the 5" seemed inadequate to cover any ground, but I worked with it

I am sure I speak for others when I say you are most welcome here.......especially as a fellow CZ owner. You probably already know this, but you can take the CZ control unit off and put it on your belt to lighten the load........another trick is to use the 5" coil as it still gets very good depth and works better in trashy areas.....there are many polite knowledgeable people on this foru

Awesome find! Tom just checked out my s/n 1121 unit. I haven't had time to get out to a good spot yet, just backyard stuff. It brings a certain peace of mind knowing your unit is all it can be. Tom is very concise and that's what you want for an analog alignment. He is very professional. Thanks again, Tom! Don, your outing is incentive for me to get out there.....

I feel your pain.....I haven't measured but you might take a look at padded acoustic guitar bags.....they wouldn't look to wierd carrying around.....there are a variety of different size musician type bags that might work......another might be a microphone stand bag. Some of them are made to hold about 6 stands. Or maybe a light stand bag.....light stands get pretty good sized.....

Who would of thought that you would find a half dollar that deep that was that new! Thanks for doing the video.....I have been wondering about how well that Compass model works.

Thanks for filling us in on your machine, Rick. Looks like I'm needing to work some overtime to get my series 1121 into Tom. At a minimum, I will know it will be all it can be. Really want to get a 5" coil also. Sure don't see a deal on them very often. Kudos to Tom for another job well done. I used to tune up two way radios and I bet it is somewhat similiar. Good Hunting!

Thanks for sharing on your s/n 1121 unit. I also have one and have been dragging my feet on sending it in to Tom. Depth seems pretty good but it seems sometimes like my pinpoint mode could use more depth. I think when I tested it about half the nickels I tried showed nickel reading. Depth was around 10.5 inches or so.....
Let us know if you notice any differences out in the field.

Scubadetector,
I also had a Whites Eagle SL II and I made the mistake of letting it go. I used it for quite a few years and really liked the simplicity and the accuracy of it. I used it coinhunting in places without a lot of mineralization and it really worked great. I would love to get another one as a backup. I ended up buying a CZ3D s/n1121
unit and am really just starting to get th

I think it is an interesting question......silver has very high conductance (higher than copper). What jimmyjiver says is basically true. I do suspect that a coil with the silver wire would have a higher Q at resonance.....it may give the coil an advantage. I bet it isn't a great deal of difference or you would be seeing it used on high end detectors. Obviously Tom would probably know ab

Thank you for posting that link.....I've never seen anything like that before. Makes me wonder about getting a CZ 21 and seeing if Tom would tune it to enhanced mode instead of salt mode so it could be used more effectively in fresh water....

I also have a series 1121 s/n 0486. The label says Fisher Research Laboratory . The unit seems to pick up a dime at about 11 inches wide open....operation seems stable. I was wondering if it was worth sending in for the "Tom" treatment? From earlier posts I take it that it is maybe not known exactly where the break in "serious" tuning and parts occurred? Thank you for your

Tom, this might be too tame for you but........what about the idea of buying the rights to the cz platform from FT? It sounds like they are just about done with it, especially if the word really gets around that they are not as good as the earlier units. You could offer it tweaked up and meeting earlier specs for a higher price. Might offer some variations, like the digital version with TDI nu

I got a laugh out of that, also.......a frying pan to the head hurts worse than a wasp sting. Seriously, I had a friend in his 40's that was having tennis elbow problems pretty bad in one arm and one day he got stung by a wasp right in the elbow where the pain was the worst. Totally cleared up the problem in his arm. Kind of like getting a steroid shot......

I am thinking perhaps something much simpler.......X RAY glasses so I can just look at the ground and walk around until I see something worth digging up.....much easier to look under that pesky surface trash....I suppose it is asking too much to have them weigh less than 60 lbs.

I kind of like Sennheiser HD280 pro's. They sell them at guitar center for $99. They are a full coverage type with a comfortable but tight fit that cuts out a lot of external noise. They are quite rugged and they fold up. They don't have a volume control on each ear like some detector headphones I've seen, but the fidelity is very good and you can use them for a lot of other pu

Thank you for the interesting report.....That's the best laugh I've had in some time. I bet that you couldn't operate that unit if you had a steel pin in your body from surgery. I think you should volunteer to check TSA agents for guns from across the highway......

I am another newcomer that enjoys reading the posts here. What attracted me here was the information on the CZ3D. When I was researching for a newer unit to buy, I needed real info to make a informed decision. My suggestion is to assemble info on various detectors and common subjects under titles that are obvious so it is easier to research the site. I bet there are people that are just rese
