For fresh water hunting I really like the AT pro with 5x8 coil. Afew years ago I was hunting a lake in 6' of water with my hooka rig. I did well with the Excal got a few silver rings and 2 gold rings and a bunch of clad. Then I switched over to the AT pro and found almost a dozen gold earring backs and stud earrings in the same area that I missed with Excal.

The Racer has shocked me for how well it does at wet salt sand hunting and it's quiet until you get a target. I still love my Excals and Ctx but the Racer can hold its own that's for sure and the price is great. I wish makro would make a waterproof machine, I'd have to have one.

Maybe "hopefully" a waterproof multi-freq machine from XP?
And I have a feeling minelab is going to upgrade the excalibur soon as they stopped making the 8" coil version and just have the 10" one now.

This is really interesting! Wish Mr. Bruce Candy would chime in about FBS and the differences of FBS 2. Has anyone did these tests on a CTX?

Wow if XP comes out with a multi freq waterproof to 30' machine that would be great. Just wonder if it'll be small gold dead or be a killer on chains? I also think it would have to be a wired machine and that would be ok with me as long as the coil wire is inside a telescopic tube like ctx.

I got a pair of the GG underwater headphones for my ctx and the volume is low even though machine is maxed out. And the phones don't keep out the outside noise enough. Does anyone know of louder waterproof phones for the ctx? Hey skiwiz could you make a set of waterproof phones that address these problems for the ctx?

Got a few hours to hit beach last night, tide was high so I knew it was going to be dry sand hunting. I left the Excal and ATX home "CTX isn't here yet" so I grabbed the racer with stock coil and headed to beach. Detected down the towel line then started gridding. Got $6.30 in clad a destroyed iphone 4 a silver toe ring and a 18k white gold band. The racer worked great I was run

The racer works very well on the wet salt sand beaches I detect in nj. It seems to love dimes. I've dug quite a few at 8" in wet salt sand and they were loud and clear. I was running it in beach mode sens at 90-97 and it was quiet. Also found a small junk jewelry chain junk ring and other clad. Wish you luck

Haven't had much of a chance to get out detecting. Been working too much. I cant wait to get out with the ATX again and post some pics. The good thing about working so much is I got a new CTX 3030 on the way and minelab is giving a free 6" coil with purchase. I hope everyone is doing great.

Nice finds Jack, thanks for the tips. your not kidding about needing a big scoop, my scoop weights 8lbs all stainless. With the ATX in one hand and a big scoop in the other digging these deep holes I just might get in shape soon lol. I'm heading to beach tonight with ATX, my girlfriend is gonna use the Excal 1000. We'll see how it goes. Wish you luck on your next trip out.

Hi Jack. That was only a 1 hour hunt at a saltwater beach. I was hitting the bottom of slope right by the water. Being that I had the sens maxed and didn't GB machine was a little noisy but targets were clearly heard. I only dug hi-lo signals. Pinpointing is amazing on this machine for me even without using pinpoint button every target was right in center of coil. This machine is deep the n

I got out to beach the other night with the atx for an hour. I only dug hi-lo tones. Dug quite a bit of small iron a few zinc pennies and a nickle. The nickle was about 14" deep and wasn't a fresh drop as its all corroded. I did a freq scan. didn't GB and ran machine on max sens '13' disc 1. Machine was a little noisy but targets came through very clear. This is the firs

I got my atx last night. Read the manual 3 times think I got most of it down haha. Gonna try to make it to beach after I get done welding a buddy's landscape trailer. I'm gonna dig all hi- low targets. Will post pics also. I'm gonna try to run it without GB'ing sens max for max depth. Some beaches by me "salt water" have been replenished with sand from offshore, I

Sounds AWSOME! My ATX should be here tomarrow. I just can't wait to take it beach/water hunting. I got a hooka rig for hitting the deeper water. I don't go any deeper than 10' underwater though. Did you try it on a large 18k ring? Was wondering if it's hi-lo also. Hope you find a ton of gold Mr Flynn.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm gonna turn this place upside down. There's gotta be more silver. I'm feeling really stupid that the only silver coin I found in my own yard was without using one of my detectors. Ha.

I had to bury a opossum that fell in the pool. So I picked a spot in my yard and started to dig a hole, I got down about a foot "finished hole was 3 feet deep" and I noticed something in bottom of hole, I reach in and pick up a standing liberty quarter no date. I never really detected my yard to good house was built in 1950s. After I got done I went inside grabbed my racer and started t

Wow I also got one coming this week. I got it to use on beach and in open fields. I read something about NOT gb'ing for more depth? I'd also like to hear from experienced users.
Thanks John

Yep AT pro and HH underwater are great machines. I just recently got the underwater by detector pro, only used it afew times, it's a great machine. The AT pro on the other hand I've had for a few years and found plenty of gold jewelry with it. it'll find small gold too.

I had a site like this afew years ago that a friend of mine found, it was a tavern site "just woods now" I used a bunch of high end and midrange machines there. Got some very nice 1700- early 1800 silver and copper coins, buttons then it dried up. Until I used an original xp goldmax there it was like a new site dug more coins in one day with that machine than I had in afew months with at

I think AKA could do very well with a U.S. distributor. From what I hear their machines aren't hype. If their newest machine really is 12k I'll never have one that's for sure. This is already a very exciting year for metal detectors with the nokta/makro machines the new Minelabs "gpz" and other companies pushing tech to new levels looks like exciting times ahead. As lon

I like the racer just how it is now. But if they were to make a higher end model I'd like to see
1. Strait shaft that's telescopic
2. All metal, 2 tone, 3 tone, multi tone.
3. Power button on faceplate
4. Keep settings until changed
5. Expanded vdi mode for cherry picking "surgical mode" . Maybe have the vdi scale not etched on the screen but adjusts to which mode y
