(non-technical non-metal detecting article)
I apologize in advance about the content of this article as it has little to do with metal detecting and would be considered "clogging up the forum". So why write it? Too much and too often we get told lies from each other simply because we are hiding behind political correctness or false civility(however that is not always the case). I hav

Aren't we putting the cart before the ox? In three years, who know what type of machine may come to the market. The Deus is a top notch machine. No doubts there. The Nox is a great machine in it's own right. I have found things that the Dues missed, the Ctx missed, and a score of other machines.
If you are thinking, "If I buy this machine, who's gonna fix it in three years&

Before I review, a quick note. I am not a supporter/detractor of any particular manufacturer. If a manufacturer fails/succeeds with a product launch or puts out a poor/stellar product, I will call them out on it. I try to be as unbiased as possible.

right now their products are top notch. However, if they start integrating new ideas, improved TID(at depth), they will bump the competition out.

interesting story. I believe at one time, a collector wanted all 5 and was offering to buy them at some petty amount, like $100, to anyone who had one. He ended up with all 5 and later sold them individually. At least thats what i remember.

Ground balancing is half the battle. I think it is one of the main reasons why the Nox is doing so well. A great example of this happened to me yesterday.
I hit an area i hit many times with other machines. This area has the toughest ground in the state simply because there is a 5 inch layer of ash covering a football field size area covered with two inches of top soil. I got two barely reada

I went to post this on the Silver nickel thread but it says I already did.
Silver nickel test. These are 54 silver nickels all found at the same site with-in a 15 foot area. Except for water, these haven't been cleaned in anyway. Here is the breakdown of dates and mint marks:

Just to be clear, to me, it's a combination of things that can make a great find:
Population: Most important as if no one was there, there will be nothing to find.
Location: Second most important factor an undisturbed area will produce great finds
Skill level: Any machine in the hands of someone skilled will produce awesome finds.
Machine: Some machines preform better than others

WOW! Digging a little deeper, these commemorative medals were all personalized. My mold/die was for Jas. A. Beaver who is actually James Addams Beaver who was a civil war vet and the 20th governor of Pennsylvania!
