I was an auto tech for over forty years, and I loved doing it. I worked on everything it seems like.I co-owned my first shop when I was 18 on the money I earned working part time as a horse holder at Madame Orr's House.
I am now retired.

It looks like there is a Minelab dealer south of you, maybe he can overnite a charger to you, or see if there is a Batteries+ store around that can help.

Out of the thousands of Racers that Makro has sold, I have only seen five or six units for sale in the classifieds. I don't think that it such a big deal.

Well, it's not a new concept. I built one out of extra Whites rods, handles, arm cup, etc, about 20 years ago. I think it is still out in the garage. I used mine in the dry sand on the central Oregon coast. Trust me, it works very well. You can move a lot of sand with very little effort. Jeff

If you want to try something a little different, stop in at the Tillamook Air Museum on the Oregon coast.
I have been there a couple of times. Very enjoyable. Look it up on line. Then after you have gone through
the museum, stop at the Tillamook Cheese Factory. UUMMMM!

My small coil is exactly the same way. I didn't know if that was the norm or not for the small coil, so I have just been living with it that way.

First, I think your "trusted dealer" is a Garrett dealer and wants to make a quick AT PRO sale. Second, ask him if he has ever held a Racer, much less put 40~50 hours on one (and the AT PRO). If he has compared the two detectors in actual field use and still recommends the AT PRO, then give it some serious thought.I suspect he is not a Makro/Racer dealer, and his info is second hand off

Is there a list somewhere that shows all the current stocking Makro dealers in the US? It would be nice if I could find one on the west coast, maybe even in California. We do have a Nokta dealer in my neck of the woods now, which I am going to check out. Thanks all. Jeff

OK, dumped out the coin jar from last year and I found eight SLQ's for 2014. I thought I had at least ten for the year, but no. They are one of my most favorite coins to find. They are still fairly easy to find. Since I am somewhat new to this area I now live, it took a bit of research to find the best spots to detect for them. What I have found so far is no one else has detected this area (

I guess I must be a dying breed. I still hunt "old school style" (for lack of a better term). With the type of equipment I use, how it is set up, the type of targets I am after, and the certain locations I hunt. I do see our hobby slowing up a bit. At least from my standpoint of view. I also realize this hobby is suffering and some targets are getting harder and harder to find. But, yo

First let me tell you I am not a big minelab fan, (great detectors, just not quite what I was looking for) but I watched the video and this new model is interesting. Some of the things I like so far-
A decent price
collapsible
light weight (finally)
concentric coil (big plus!)
Single frequency
Great build quality (I hope)
Auto tracking GB
small package~great for backpacking.
Handy back

There are a few things I love to do besides detecting ~ playing guitar, building hot rods, camping, and trout fishing.
BUT, my passion is still metal detecting / treasure hunting. I am into my 48th. continuous year and still going.

For a long, long time now, on various forums, I have read the positives and the negatives of doing business with kellyco. To tell you the truth, It's amazing some of the stories I have heard from friends all over the USA, and how badly they were treated before, during and after the sale. For me, I shop other dealers that treat me with respect, give me a fair and honest deal, and can answer

There were a few over the years, the White's Goldmaster 66TR, also the White's XLT, Minelab Explorer II, and the Compass Gold Scanner Pro.These detectors were excellent to use in their intended environment, you just had to learn their language.

It seems like quite a few guys hunt for gold here (nuggets). I do hunt parks once

I was born and raised in the Folsom / Fair Oaks area, and started detecting when I was 14. A few years later I moved to Newport, Or.
I now live in Chico, Ca. for the last 19 months.

Congrats on the hunt, looks like you had a lot of fun. Those chinese cash coins are always neat to find. I think I found my first ones in late 1967 or early 1968. It seems some areas are just littered with them, at least here in north Cal.
