What a potentially good site, the pits would have been down in the valley part of the field, usually either scrap Bronze waiting to be be re-used again as it was a very valuable commodity then for weapons of war and tools as well,or maybe eve

Down in that dip when the 2 fields join near the treeline, does a stream or river along that piece of land ?? if water is in that location would be a good place for a BA furn

I would assume that the BA barrow is scheduled ?? that would be a very good location to detect all around that area, most of the Barley around me is off and the Wheat will be coming off in the next few weeks.Oils Seed rape is coming of as well, stalks are like bamboo cut you ankles to shreds if you dont wear the right food wear.
That certainly looks like a good detecting site, time to use a larg

I have always fancied trying a Nauti DMC2B for hoard hunting here in the UK,our soil is not as bad as the VA soil infact i would say ours is very mild,if i want depth from say a VLF machine or a PI i use either the Nexus Standard SE with dual 9'' coil or the TDI Pro with the 20'' Sierra Grande Mono coil on.Both these machines are about as deep as i want too dig anyway,

I am aware that its not a machine that is on your original list, but still one of the all time favourite machines is the Minelab Sovereign,if all it is being used is one tide edge then that will do very well as its not a diving detector but for the wet sand they are a very hard act too follow.

My health is pretty good as a general rule, what is my major problem is my wrist due to a bad bike accident years ago, this has come back to haunt me,as hard as i try to swing with my left arm it just does not seem to work,so one has adapted my machine use and how i use them as well.
Every day machines i tend to use lightweight machines like the Deus,T2,Laser Trident11 Extreme(UK version of the

Another possibility is the Garrett Seahunter with the 8''Mono coil, nice machine for jewellery hunting on the beach,i use both the Garrett 8'' and 14''x10 coil on my Crossbow PI as well, for a general all round beach machine that is non waterproof the TDI Pro is a hard machine to beat.
Finding a machine that ticks all your boxes could well be a tough task,no one mac

Of course its very good news, but i dont personally think it should of been allowed too get this far,i am predominantly a Whites man and have been for many years, but with this current MX Sport problem and the way that it was handled has me sitting on the fence. But i never buy a new piece of detecting equipment for a minimum of 12 months from the release date mainly to see if major issues like this

I use a few wireless combinations which can be dependent on the weather or season that we are in here in the UK,the main weapon of choice that i shoot from the hip is the full setup Deus, which i use the full cup WS5 headphones and i must admit i do like them, but during the summer when its hot i the use a set of Sennheiser over ear OMX185 headphones,i agreee that these are wired these specific hea

Glad i stuck by my 12 month rule of not buying a new machine incase teething problems arise, this MX Sport is plagued with problems, its a shame as Whites have always been my favourite detector brand for many years, not any more i am afraid.

In the UK the archeologist make us 'all' out too be the thieving rogues indirectly using metal detectors, but rest assured they are far from being squeaky clean themselves,as long as i abide by the guidelines that are set down, and on legal land permission then i dont get screwed up by these social media reports, events like this story and many others can be manipulated by the news media a

Some of the older Whites machine can be very enjoyable too use,i do also use a IDX Pro and must admit for a older machine its pretty deep, its very good on trashy sites even with the stock coil,i also have a 5.3 and the 15'' Concentric.Simplicity and easy to use and even after using my DFX with 1000s of hours on the clock i am finding that i am picking the IDX machine up over the DFX.

The Deus is like any other machine, you have too learn it and the more you put in the more you get out as the saying goes. The bottom line a detector it makes no odds what make it is is just a big expensive lump of plastic/alloy and electronic components inside,on its own it wont find you anything, its not a magical detector that finds the best coins/artifacts just by switching it on,that is still d

If i am 'methodically' detecting a site i tend to carry and use small orange cones that i bought off Ebay that are generally about 10'' tall and used for kids goal posts, then use them too grid a small area and i mean small and then spend many hours detecting within that space.Currently have been using this method on a very early saxon animal enclosure going back a 1000 years.Y

I use the UK version of this new Vaquero with the 11x8 coil on,its called the Laser Trident11 Extreme, which has been breathed on with a few additional features, its taken some time to GEL with machine but gradually i am liking it more, just ordered the Mars Sniper 10x6 coil for it which will probably become the everyday use coil. The Extreme version not only come with the manual GB but also can be f

Main probe i use is the original black Garrett PP and its never let me down,as a backup the Bullseye 11,best one of all is my DX-1 inline probe that i use on my DFX of course its tethered too that one specific machine all the time but you hear exactly what you are pinpointing through your headphones.
Someone has mentioned the old Sherlock probe, that is going back a few years and yes i still ha

Some folks make a detecting spades out of say a el-cheapo garden spade cut down with a grinder, which is fine, but across the top edge of the blade they usually have say a stiff top edge of the blade of the metal rolled over, some half metal welded on the top as well, its too protect th

Digging tools can basically come in 2 forms and these are usually purpose made tools or say modified gardening/agricultural ones, cost of course can play a massive part of what tool is purchase.
One of the popular options over here in the UK is buying a small spade with a lightweight nylon handle, this is great for carrying around all day due to being light, but when the going gets tough like it

This thread makes some very good reading,i do own a few modern machines but also a IDX Pro,albeit is not modded with the Mr Bills modification and i doubt that i will get that done either. But it does excel very well on trashy roman/saxon sites, swing slow and low and you will get in between the trash to find the decent targets.
Also just recently bought the 1500 Whites coil, very suprised at how
