Here is something that occurred yesterday and today...
I was able to hunt a beach where the water was almost calm and flat, and the beach (under the water) extended quite a way out before it dropped off.
When the water would get about halfway up the earphone plug connector, where it attaches to the pod, I would get a positive response. The ID actually showed a 5 to 8 number. Once the connector

My Manticore hasn't disappointed me. I have not hunted inland yet but for my beach needs it is going above and beyond many previous beach machines that I have owned. I have no regrets in its purchase and today it found its first thin 10K gold chain about 3 inches deep in the breaking surf / wet sand area. A definite crisp, diggable signal showing 5 / 6 on the VID, running in prospecting audi

I've been saltwater hunting for quite a while, and to find a gold chain IN the water is a rare occurrence. Unless it's a big one... they hide from detection quite well.

Tom...Thanks for all the great information. I don't think this was mentioned...
When completely submerged in salt water, is it best to use tracking on (as the manual recommends), or just do an occasional auto GB? I always have that old school thought about using tracking and nulling out weak targets when crosschecking them. I am hunting Florida Gulf coast mainly. Thanks!

Hey Tom... That was a great story that brought back many fond memories for me. I too had a paper route as a kid as well as raking leaves, mowing lawns and knocking on doors for 5 cent returnable bottles. That always gave me some spending money. I can't remember which machine I used first.... The Radio Shack or the Relco but I think it was the Relco. Pretty sure it was a BFO and wet grass an

I started in the early 70's and this is how it expanded.... I bought my first detector to look for old bottle dumps in the woods and farm fields. While doing that I started searching in my own back yard as well as the neighbors and found some older IH's, wheaties and silver coins. Then I started to access the schools, playgrounds, parks and churches (all within a bicycle ride from my ho

My original Nox 800 was 2 years and 2 months old. Used extensively in salt water waist to chin deep in the Florida sun. No leaks whatsoever but the pod did manage to have all 4 bolts pull out and break the housing. Probably from torque strain of water and strong wave hunting. It has since been replaced with a new pod. So far no leaks but pretty early to tell.

I don't know the back-stories on many of the people on this forum and I was wondering if I can get a little clarification on those who are working on the Tarsacci. Originally I thought it was solely Dimitar who builds and orchestrates the machine. But after reading such a HUGE response to this thread, it appears that NASA-Tom is in with development and I understand sales right from the launc

I would think that minelab has additional coils because they are a huge manufacturer of such and having additional coils available pleases those who want a smaller coil and those who want a larger coil. Problem solved in consumer demands plus more money for Minelab. I don’t know anything about Dimitar but I’m sure his resources aren’t as strong as Minelab.

I would say that the Nox would perform somewhat better if the sweep speed is slowed down especially when being run at 2... and... if you are looking for deep marginal targets. Salt water washing over the coil is a big problem for me if the target is at questionable depth to begin with on wet sand. I find myself waiting for the surf to drop back in order to clarify if it is indeed a target at all.

Remember the old days?
When a new metal detector was brought to light in the pages of a treasure magazine. Now it seems that a lot of people want all the answers before it even "hits the streets"

This was some of my "first" gold nuggets with the original Gold Bug back in the late '80's.
I sent this picture and a story to Fisher... 50 good reasons to buy a Gold Bug! ( Never did hear anything from them LOL). The big piece was just over 5 ounces.
Most of the gold was found in hot, red, sticky Arizona clay. The rest in caliche. My friend using a GPZ is finding a lot of d
