When I had my ATX, I would do a GB and then start hunting. Never did I use the tracking. I was always concerned about possibly nulling out a deep, faint, small target after multiple passes over it...in order to determine if it were indeed a target. Once in a while I would re-ground balance to keep things at their optimum performing level. It only takes a few seconds.

Tom... I have been using the M8 on and off for about 2 weeks now. 4 times completely submerged and the rest of the time on the wet sand. I am using a sensitivity of 27 to 28 on the wet in Beach LC and 27 in the water in Submerged and occasionally Beach General. It certainly hits on tiny bits of metal more so than the M11, and you are correct in having a scoop with tiny holes especially in the wat

Hey Tom, Just want to tell you I have been using the Beach General IN the saltwater with pretty good results. I am able to run a sensitivity around 20 - 21 without too much ear fatigue. I think it is more sensitive and deeper than the Seawater Mode. But more testing is in the works. Found 2 small thin gold rings that were pretty deep so things are looking good. 1.8gm and a 2.5gm that I broke when

Tom… I remember finding 1870’s coins just inches under the ground. Talk about fun!! And that was with old technology detectors such as my Compass 77B or Garrett ADS 7. Pockets full, but back then hardly anyone was metal detecting. I just went to a beach this morning and in the course of 3 hours counted 6 different guys hunting. Things sure have changed.

I sold the majority of them in the 80’s to a pharmacist who was buying silver for more than the spot price. If I remember correctly it was at an all time high or close to it at the time I sold. I did keep some of the beautiful Barbers and older nice condition coins I had found metal detecting. Living in Florida now, I sure miss finding those early coins when I lived in NY state.

Back around 1973/74, I had a job in a grocery store on the cash register. Back then almost everyone paid in cash or check. Several times during my shift, my boss would let me go through the other cash register drawers and take the silver coins out (as long as I replaced them with clad) and keep the silver. I don't remember how much I accumulated but it was a significant amount and a daily tr

I would lean (no pun intended) for a heavier coil if it meant better performance. In my case I can swing a coil efficiently and accurately with either arm. If one arm gets fatigued, I just switch to the other for a while.

Hi Tom...Any idea as to how much more sensitivity might be achieved in the salt water with the 8" x 5.5" versus the stock coil? Thanks Bob K

Tom... I think you explained everything quite clearly the first time it was brought up. Thanks for clarifying things again for those who missed it.

Holy Smokes!! I just tried the new In Private window and it transformed this website into something I have not seen here in years. Very refreshing to see and read topics in a modern format. Thanks Tom for pointing out the 3 dots!

So Tom.... Beach Low Conductors IN the water? Interesting. Going to NYS for a couple weeks and doing some dirt hunting. It will be my first time with the Manticore in the dirt. When I get back to FL I'll have to experiment with the Low Conductors in the water. What kind of sensitivity are you using for that scenario? Thanks!

I was one of the original Fisher Impulse Limited buyers and from what I see... There is no difference in this new release. Same 3.5 hour battery, same short power cord, same knobs, depth of submersion, etc. Where is the "final" version with all the improvements?

Tom I made a huge mistake! It IS the metal coil connector... on the back of the control-head/pod!
When IT touches the saltwater OR when I touch it, while standing in salt water it squawks. I am absolutely sure of this. Thanks for understanding and looking into this!

I use earphones 99% of the time and most of that time the Manti is submerged. I have been doing some testing in my back yard recently, with the external speaker only, and after about 5 minutes the external audio just about goes away. Everything starts out loud and clear with the volume at 25 but after a short time I have noticed a little "pop" sound and the audio drops to around a "

Thanks Tom. I appreciate your investigation. Two different headsets, both with the same result. A definite positive response that can and does make you stop in your tracks thinking it is a target.

Tom ...It is on the 1/8"wired headphone plug. It reacts just about 1/2 way up the plug. When it first touches the water it is ok and as it gets a little higher on the plug it audio responds. Once the plug is fully immersed all is ok again. Had some little splashing waves and every time they hit the plug it responded. No problems on the wire itself. Tony.E. headphones. Thanks
