Help on a old button
December 13, 2010 01:55PM
I found my first real old button in almost 25yrs of hunting, at my old park with my SE 6" deep, that read like a zinc penny, in a REAL trashy area, going real slow with a '5 SunRay coil. The writing on the back I thought reads "PICH COLOUR" and the shank looks like its soldered on. It has a real nice green patina. I posted it on the Explorer forum on Findmall and the guys there are saying its "RICH COLOUR".I'm alittle excited because I think this may be the oldest thing I've found. Any input will be appreciated.
Thanks, Aaron

From the size.....and the zinc penny reading.........................and...............................IF it's a 'one-piece'.......it would probably be a early 1800's button. One piece buttons with welded/soldered eyelets were the 'common standard' in the 1820's - 1830's. Sounds like a 'one piece'......but verify this first.

REALLY good chances it's from the early 1800's.
