Omega 8000 with 13" Ultimate Coil

Wanting to take advantage of Teknetics $375 close-out price for Omega 8000's if you buy them direct from the factory, I got one last week and took it out on Saturday (as I posted a couple of days ago).

I also tested it against an 8" quarter I buried years ago in my "3 bar" dirt here at the house. It hit the quarter with a solid id, but with hardly any "air gap" - I doubt it would have managed another inch. This is of course with the standard 10" concentric coil. Not exactly a "depth monster" that is about on par with most detectors I have tried, including things like a Tesoro Vaquero, a Whites V3i, and an 8" Deus.

I then remembered an old thread here started by Keith Southern - where he talked about the huge depth boost a 13" Ultimate coil gave the Omega. I tracked it down and read it and immediately started looking for a used coil. Luckily I found one and should have it by next week. I look forward to seeing if I can duplicate Keith's results.

Here's a link to the thread, followed by a sample of what Keith posted in it.

Part of what Keith posted:

"Albert the Omega with ultimate is deeper than ctx..

i dont like to compare one brand to another.but in depth I will again say it gets easy depth with this coil..not depth you have to eek out or work for but real clear sounding targets at a foot or more if there large..

i would of never thought it..

it's the lower freq coupled with the ability to run the gain all the way in the mid 90s to even 99.. '

I'm sure not seeing the Omega 8000 with Ultimate 13" coil to be deeper in my ground than my CTX with stock.-----Be interesting to see what you get Rick.-----Let us know.-----------Del

Deepest coins I have ever dug where with the Omega 8000 and Ultimate coil. I remember thinking I must have a can in the hole because it was too deep to be a coin and it ended up being a Wheat Penny. It's a deep seeker for sure.

The 10x13 Tiger coil on my 8500 is deep on dimes for sure.

I have a 13" ultimate coil for my Omega that I use for civil war relic hunting, it is much deeper than the stock 7 X 11" coil.
One thing that I've noticed is how smooth it runs for it's large size, however it will pick up a little more E.M.I than the stock 7 X 11" dd coil.
I've never used it to coin hunt with but in my test garden, it's the deepest coil I own.
