Your method has less steps when you remove the following:

1. Open a new tab in your browser
2. Type the address for another forum
3. Go to the section of the forums where you can submit finds
4. click "create post"
5. Create a title for your post
6. Enter the text of your post in the body of the submission field.
7. Click "add attachment". A window will open to select the file.
8. Navigate to the file location and select the file.
9. Click "submit" so your post is created.
10. Find the image you uploaded.
11. Right click and select "copy URL"
12. Return to this thread on dankowski
13. Click "edit" under your first post.
14. Add the URL to your original post.
15. Click "save changes"

MAN, Shoveler, your version is away harder than Steveg's.

I know something even simpler. Just do all your posting on the other forum(s) PERIOD. That way you don't have to worry about posting pics here ever again.
But, if you want to post here, figuring out how to post pics here might be worth it. And you'll be doing a favor for those you want to share your pics with.
I don't like having to chase links to other forums, but that's just me.

Congrats on the gorgeous GOLD coin! Teffific find. Know you are thrilled!!!
You must have selected one type of link for the picture that showed up, and a different type of link for the second one.
Had you previewed your post before submitting it, it may have shown you what your result would be, giving you a chance to change the bad link before posting.

But, yeah, you made the effort and I'd call it a success. Now, post some more pics!

Yes, Wayne, I think you are right that that is what happened as to why the second pic didn't post. But, the post could still be edited by BIG PAPA if he wanted, to fix that link...

In any case, yes, that was essentially a success!

Here's where the D would be. Seems an odd spot for the mint mark.

BTW, this is one of my favorite coin reference sites, and I have purchased a few type coins there.

I took the coin to a dealer and coin collector to have it looked at and he couldn't find a D on it so it's a Philadelphia mint. It was hard to tell at first because there appears to be a smudge right in the same spot as a mint mark. Once it was put under a magnifying glass it is clear that there is no mint mark. As far as the location that I found it, I'm in the finger lakes region of New York. It's a very small town loaded with old homes from mid 1800s. I actually got permission to do this house because I grew up with her kids. She told me that back in the 1980s her kids took a bunch of her jewelry and buried in the yard while playing pirate! So she asked me to please let her know if I found them. So I have been there maybe 20- 25 times detecting and it is easily the most iron infested dirt I have ever seen. Literally every hole will have at least 1 or more nails in it. The whole yard is like that! Before the gold coin, all I have found here was 1 wheatie, clad and toy cars. Oh, and buckets of nails and garbage. I really hope the Relic is up for the challenge of sifting nails and finding rings and necklaces but so far it's failing. Well except for the 1/4 eagle that is!

BIG PAPA -- thanks for the additional info! Finding one in the "East" is an even MORE unusual feat. GREAT JOB!

CONGRATS again on a "find of a lifetime!"

It's funny that you say "Chunky"! Honestly, I had never seen a gold coin except in pictures. I really thought that they would be bigger! Nope! Hardly bigger than a dime. Still love it like a new car though!

BIG PAPA --

Yeah, yours is just about dime-sized; you should see a $1 gold coin, though! They are TINY! Slightly smaller in diameter than a half-dime!

Eagles, and Double Eagles, though, nice-sized coins!

NO MATTER, what you dug is most coin-hunting detectorists' DREAM FIND...at or near the top of the bucket list for many.

And you should be especially proud of yours, in my opinion, as that is the one that IDs RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of the range of all the rectangular/square tabs out there. A $1 coin is most difficult to find, due to its size (which makes it tough to detect for many machines at the depths you'd normally expect a 150 year-old coin to reside at), and due to the relatively limited time they were made along with the "early" date (relative to other gold coins) that they stopped making them (late 1880s). But those $2.50 coins would in my mind be real tough, as they ID RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of the pop can tabs! To find one in a "dig it all" relic hunt would be more likely, but in a park type setting, or even a trashy yard, that's a tougher "dig" decision to make, from my view.

I have targeted many "gold coin signals" in park-type settings for digging in the past, in hopes of nabbing one; double eagles ID similar to a penny, eagles similar to a zinc penny or IH, quarter eagles below the zinc range (just below a very crusty corroded zinc and just near or above a few of the highest-reading old-style rectangular tabs). I have even targeted some of those "between foil and nickel" IDs, where a $1 gold coin IDs, similar to a thinner ladies' gold diamond wedding ring. But those $2.50 coins, which ID right smack dab in the middle of the modern rectangular tab range?

You did a great job making that dig decision, and your REWARD speaks for itself!

Steve

GREAT job!

It does look chunky though, like one of them gold foil chocolate coins lol
Maybe it's the way there made, looks like it's got pressed in letters rather than raised, or is it the camera angle??
I got a small gold coin last year, doesn't look as pretty as yours though.

The letters are indeed pressed into the coin. Same as the Indian and eagle. After work tonight I will try to post a close up of it for you. It definitely was the same sound as a pop top only it sounded just slightly more clear. That was one of those days that I told myself to dig every signal that was remotely good high or low! Guess it paid off. Maybe I'll post a picture of the 45 pop tops I dug that day too. Lol
