They changed the target tones from 1-2-5-25 to 1-2-5-50

I see what you are saying, and you're right. As long as the precision is there, and is repeatable, it doesn't matter what the actual TID number is. I guess in this context, Minelab calling the TID "accurate" would most closely be akin to being repeatable.
One reason they may have gone with the 40 non-ferrous ID numbers is to increase the repeatability and stability.

I can't wait to get mine and start putting it through its paces.

There is one thing not mentioned in all the info that would interest a lot of people, does it have TID in all metal. That was the one thing the X-Terras lacked in prospecting mode. Hopefully ALL the advanced settings are available for 40 kHz.

Keith

I hope they have the -8/48 X-Terra iron wrap around fixed. The iron range has been expanded one number from -8 on the X-Terras to -9 on the Equinox and hopefully solves most of the problem. Would hate to see 40 showing up in iron sites all the time. winking smiley

Yup nearly twice the resolution of the X-Terra 705, 40 TID numbers vs 24. Deeper targets on the 705 can bounce one segment either way in my ground which was "good enough" for me. If the Equinox is more accurate/stable at depth as claimed it will be pretty awesome.

Marketing thumbs up

Well there we have it folks, It's no better than the Xterras. Bet they change it back and quick! 3-1/2 stars.

REMEMBER: This is NEW tech. We don't really know if the traditional "how and why" of TID even applies. For all we know, the fe scale may be incorporated into the TID numbers. The White XLT had a great feature where you could change the algorithm of the TID.

The one option used TID averaging. at each sweep the TID would be averaged then divided by the number of sweeps to produce a more accurate TID.

Another option was the highest(strongest) TID was kept.

Anyway, I was just hoping that someone would add this feature down the road.

New tech , old tech ,,,,,, it's hard to ignore that Minelab itself is showing the Safari , Etrac and CTX as all being far superior in the area of discrimination.
This might be the first clue as to why everyone was surprised at the lower than expected pricing.

I addressed this in another post somewhere, but, they are not going come out and say, "This is the Equinox, and at $900, it's better than our $1200 + machines". That wouldn't make any sense. Read between the lines.

The WM 08 wireless audio module looks as though it only supports 3.5mm jackplugs and not the 1/4 inch (6.35mm) ones thats a bit disappointing for me as i do not like using adaptors.

Well if 40 is better than 100 then 20 should be twice as stable as 40......or should it be 23........or maybe 42........or.....?

Considering they started the Nox at 4 starts, and now it's bounced between 2.5 - 4 starts, it's hard to read anything serious into that label other then marketing drivel.

All the speculation will soon be over when they start shipping......patience grasshopper.

Lol they should use 1..... it would be 100% right all the time, at any depth, on any target smiling smiley
