44 and at least 44 more to go started detecting regularly in 96 with a gold master # 3. For a second there I thought I was going to be the youngest one. (Keith Tag Your It) Funny Tom I had the same 101 kit but wasn't smart enough to wave it over the ground. LOL

I'm 45. Bought my first detector, a 1265x back in 1985 and used it until I bought my F70 two years ago.

well at this point unless i messed up 30 guys have posted their age with a total of 1645 years experience. the average age of hunters apx. 54.83............................... oldest is 75 and youngest is 40

52, started in 1975 with an ah mini pro, the company with the first discriminating detector. Dealer told me I would get sick of digging junk with a non discriminator. Yup, he knew his stuf!

After trying it around home and on the beaches here in Michigan I decided I needed something with a real discriminator. Bought the then new 1236X2 and its been many detectors and tons of fun since.

I am "The Kid" on here. Going to be 28 in June, and started in 1997 with a Garrett GTA 350! Love the hobby, decided to come to UK for a PhD last year, partly because of the detecting opportunities!

Yes! Popular Science and Popular Mechanics! I remember seeing a full page ad on the inside back cover of one of those back in the early 70's; it was a drawing of a guy using a detector and he was just about to swing his coil over a buried chest of gold coins. I wanted to be that guy.

I'm 59, been detecting since 1976, 1st machine on land was a Bounty Hunter and Silver Turtle in the water, not much depth but in those days coins & rings were everywhere.....

What a bunch of old guys !! I am only 62.
