For You long time users which machine is better in iron infested sites? I have heard both praised but does one have a edge over the other? Thanks.

The 1236 is quite deep maybe tad deeper in ground than a 8 inch coiled say Silver sabre Umax..Bandido with manual ground balance can change that though

The 1236 disc is full 180 so you can tweak it some to get more iffy hits on iron Vs the 120 tesoro.

The Beauty of the 1236 is the ease of use, turn it on and hunt keep silencer turned off. but needs the 5 inch to compete in heavy iron.

Its really hot on silver in nails.

Loves round in nails..weird shapes in iron the nod goes to the tesoro somewhaty et i did dig a curved 2 snake out of a snake buckle once in awful nails but was a funky hit with the 1236 but for the most part over time I saw it favored round objects in iron the most...I rana Nadido though some iron once and dug some targets then used the 1236 right behind it after lunch and it snagged a 1776 2 reale couple of inches deep in between bandido dig holes..its alot calmer in nails Vs Tesoro on zero disc..but the round breaks through wiht eerie ease.just sounds fatter and rounder in all the chips and pops noise.

It sounds alot like a 1266 with silencer off but more intelligent hits and not as sparky and stronger disc circuit to depth..With silencer on its really quite on disced items..but misses the stuff the tesoro will see.

It can surprise you and see some things in nails with five inch coil epsecially the tesoro wont and vice versa

Tesoro better small jewlery hunter.

1236 fun to run too.and easy just use your ears!It even has preset click on the disc knob to cancel nails..and is pretty dead nuts on that.leave silencer off turn machine on and hunt

Loves big brass too..big iron sounds like a broken signal on a 90 degree resweep. where as on tesoro it can sound good.

If you had a Bandido2 micromax and a Fisher 1236x in front of me and a new trashy iron homestead that was unhinged I would grab the Bandido first anyday. 1236 us a good machine but in the heavy iron it is no B2 micromax imo.

I bought a 1236 when they came out and it was the only detector I had for almost 2 years. Put well over 2000 hours on it by my reckoning and made more finds with it than any other detector since. I was getting ready to hit the beach with it when word came over the car radio of the planes hitting the World Trade Center.

The disc on the 1236 is perfect for hunting nails, in fact any size iron IMO. The preset iron disc position is, as Keith said, perfect. Just go slow and let the audio talk to you.

5kHz versus 10kHz. To me the audio of analog Fisher vs Tesoro....prefer Tesoro. Dug more iron with Fisher, but Fisher is deeper. It is well known that the 1236x was a model that Los Banos Fisher had assembled offshore. The First-Texas 1236x were made here in the USA (now discontinued). Is there a difference in quality?? Fisher 1266x (saturated audio) with 10" solid coil is extremely deep....chattier than the previous 1265x (modulated).

The original 1236's were made in Los Banos. Not sure when they switched to Taiwan. I have my buddies 1236 which it is a Taiwan model. This one seems to have more usable gain due to a change in threshold level at higher sensitivity settings however, that could be due to a difference in the headphones used. I'd like to get a hold of an original Los Banos built machine to compare.
