Buying from a company just because of where they are located is the epitome of stupid. We aren't talking about 50 different pairs of demin jeans , we are talking about technology. People (intelligent people) buy what works best for them. Apparently not enough people thought Tesoro worked best. Will Whites follow? Only they know is enough people still consider them a best option.

Harold I have bought detectors supposedly made in USA.

Toss - you missed one thing - the US ain’t where it’s at in detecting any more.

Tesoro had a good footprint in Europe and other relic arrests, but they didn’t capatilze on it because of a lack or technical know how.

Lots of successful European detectors have no screen.

It ani’t Screenless that killed Tesoro - it’s lack of product suited to market.

The US market is now - $ wise - big box store direct from Christmas tree to closet \

The new “high end” is international and mostly they pay little attention to numbers, Tesoro made a couple of audio oriented machines, then lost this plot.

The future is audio - numbers are going away - they can’t give any nuanced representation of the target without enormous complication,

Rick,
There are just other products more folks want. Bounty hunters, Aces, etc.
Yeah they may have fell down in the marketing.
But that is part of business overall.
How do you reach folks? Not hard to figure out.
Easier than it use to be, by far.
American Market, just a flash in the pan ?? Really.
Why did Minelab get their act together with what seems like a better performing service c enter??
And Xp, naw, they haven’t made any loot here either. Right?
They even have a dedicated Xp America’s website. They could have used one abroad (English one) could n’t they??

USA is wealthy country. I sure wouldn’t overlook if I were a manufacturer. Granted gold detectorist here probably lacking vs Africa. But we know why.
If weather was better year round in gold country in USA it would help quite a bit.
I mentioned wireless headphones. Creature comfort while using and digging finds is for real and very wanted in today’s industry. Just look, Xp and White’s started and look where we are now.

The lower end market.
I think there are some things some manufacturers could do here and steal some market. I would be watching Minelab and Nokta-Makro to do just that.
Metal detecting forums, more folks are reading than some think. They aren’t joining but reading. Just too easy to google and find a detecting site and read.
And if one will notice it don’t generally take much time to see what’s is being talked about the most model wise.

I hate to see Tesoro go. But if someone would have took bets even 2-3yesrs ago, and had to bet which would fold first, I think most would have laid their money on Tesoro.
Deeptech has likely hurt them too. I mean the more experienced. Which would they be more inclined to buy. (Europeans). I don’t know what the deep tech units cost over there, but should be cheaper there vs here.

I don’t think Tesoro is the last to go either. Won’t say who else but have idea based on a few things I notice.

Just think, when I started detecting Dec 2010. No Xp in USA, no Nokta, No Makro, no Deep tech.
Since Dec 2010
Look at models released in USA to current.
Minelab CTX
White’s Vx3
Fisher F75 dst
Fisher F75+
Makro Racer 1 and 2
Nokta FORS core
Nokta CF coinfinder
Nokta gold
Nokta gold +
Nokta Anfibio.
Xp Deus with version 2, 3, 3.2, 4, 5.2
Garret At Max
Deep tech vistas warriors gold and gold gain.
***Tesoro Mohave***
White’s Trasuremaster
White’s MX sport
White’s MX7
Makro gold racer
Minelab Equinox
Garrett Ace 300 and 400
Technetics T2+
Blissrool V2,V3, V4,V5, and V6
Makro Kruzer and multi Kruzer
Tarsacci mdt 8000
Aka units not sure of their release dates.
I am sure I am missing some.

Since New Years is near, good time to list this here to see where we’ve gone in industry overslll since beginning of 2011.

Tnss - I’ll admit, your earlier days here I found myself often puszzled or worse at your contributions....a weakness of mine.

All opinions - thought through - or even just entusiastic - have weight - I said weight - value, as always is in the eye of the beholder.

This beholder’s eye is refocusing.

thanks for your enthusiastic contributions - including all of them (yes, even the ones that I think are rubbish! - lol)

That’s ok Rick.
I have said this here before.
Detector manufacturers, if they will keep their eyes on auto market overall, and think like them (the good ones) or tske the best parts of each and think about. They will do alright.
Question
Does a 1990 Lincoln Continental really ride any worse than a 2018 model ? Nope
But what has Ford done with Lincoln?

Detector industry seems to lag somewhat the auto industry. But the writing is their to see.
And where has auto industry went actually? Creature comfort features.

I have been talking about future of detector industry a while here. Maybe I should have persued a degree in marketing. It actually interests me. Really about mind reading when you think about and be a faster mind reader than your competition. But whatever you come up with it has to be achievable.

Happy New Year Rick.
Just think we have all of next year to continue our conversation. And YES you’ll probably hear more RUBBISH from me. Lol

tnsharpshooter- “But what has Ford done with Lincoln?”

Speaking of marketing.... way back in the 60’s before the Lincoln line really started doing well, FORD did some marketing research of their own and found that by RAISING the price of the Town Car and Continental did their sales begin to start to compete with Cadillac and other luxury line vehicles.

IDK,,said you like marketing, just sayin...

I know this link is to dealer.
But since Tesoro is Tango Uniform.
Some folks may be thinking of getting some things for their Tesoro units. They could dry up pretty quick with time.
So an exception here. Hopefully folks won’t have a hissy.

Btw, I have no connections really with this dealer. I did buy an old Xp Explorer off of couple years ago.

If you want to get a taste of real-world marketing about products you thought dead...like Polaroid, Delorean, and the Commodore 64, here's a quick fun read:

Probably shouldn't hold your breath for Tesoro, though...might take a decade or two. winking smiley

HA! First, If I was insulting you, you wouldnt have to ask. Secondly, Thats really rich to see you talk of "rude posters". Earlier this year you attacked every Equinox owner and called many members here arrogant, pompous, etc. I guess you know pretty well about "rude posters" >grinning smiley<

I agree with Rick above. A serious relic hunter has little use for a meter. Nautilus machines found thousands of relics for years. Did they have a meter?

The unit I hardly EVER hear mentioned comes to Mind
XP GOLDMAXX POWER
NO METER !!!!!
Iron Tone Break Point
Iron Volume !!
Three Tones Plus an assortment of Tonal or (( SONIC IMAGING ))
Blending AND Bleeding
Sea of Nails, NO PROBLEM !!
A huge assortment of coils
Wireless Headphones ( I Have A Pair )
Straight Shaft

Audio is the new video,

Quicker, more direct more nuanced (look it up - it ain’t a big word) -

Coin shooting per classic US detecting is dying. Recent calculations estimate that a pound of normally distributed coins is about 65 coins worth about $12, Can you find more than 20 coins an hour? If you can you make about $4 per hour. Go home!

Relics are all that is left. Older bits - jewelry - some AZ tokens sell for $1000 - dog tags from WWII - our club has a specialist who has sent dozens of these back to surviving families -

It’s a great hobby, but the silly screens were all about coinshooting - which is dying.

P.S, It’s a new year - how about we all cut each other a little slack. None of us are professional writers and an ill chosen word can sting in a way the writer may not have intended. If I say something’s stupid, I run the risk that the person who made the statement thinks I meant they are stupid - which is likely not the fact.

I concur. I was just using the Gold Maxx on a old iron site last weekend, and manage to find several shallow non fe targets that I had missed w the Impact. I still like the tones better on the Gold Maxx also, and even better than the DEUS. And yes, the cordless headphones are killer!

But when you call clad stabbing dumb, I think you underestimate the number of people whose primary enjoyment of the hobby doesn't come from monetary gain.

hey rick!
you know as well as "most" that "private property" is where it's at and has been for years now!..yeah, your public places are mostly "cooked"but it's STILL rewarding to find a "decent" coin every once in a while. i go after "sidewalk easements",and for jewelry, will hit "totters" as well.have found enough to make it a "priority" but it will "never" even be close to what i done back in the 70's and 80's when silver was everywhere.i agree with you about relics, and again,it's private land that yields the most,at least here in new england. mostly farmer's fields and old cellar holes in the woods. as i am retired,i enjoy just "cruising" around
looking for old 'curb strips",as there are a ton of 'em here too!

GMP is excellent detector and still believe its stronger than the Deus on GMP setting.

its just most dont have them here in the states and XP is not interested in selling them here.So little talk..and like Rick says it doesn't have a meter so most guys especially the newer hunters believe you have to have a meter

If my machine has a meter I use it when I trust it to be of use.

Sort of like backup camera. My new truck has one but you better believe I'm still looking over my shoulder!LOL!

LOL Keith!

Funny thing is you can get GMP’s on EBay all the time for under $500.00
It’s been out a long time now so besides it not having a meter and all the other bells and whistles...I suppose some may be under the impression that it’s old tech. It’s just not the case.
