Anyone have any idea what these lead things are???
May 09, 2019 12:48PM
I’ve been really using the TARSACCI a lot, (relic/coin) digging everything, even bad signals and I’m now starting to feel comfortable though not totally confident,,,yet.

I only have around 30hrs on it so far, interesting, the battery still has all 4 bars!

I’m hunting and area I’ve been finding relics from mid 1850’s to current junk, and I’m finding these lead pieces around a old maple tree, not sure what they are. The one on the bottom right looks like puddle of drippings ,,weird.

Thanks, Aaron

They remind me of fired pellets or small caliber rounds.

Here’s what the bottoms look like.

The bottoms a very smooth, not like a casted smooth.

They look similar to the lead nail heads we get over here on most older house sites.

Casting sprues for musket balls ?

They look like the sprue that results from a bullet mold. Flat side is where the sprue cutter shears the excess lead and the top where the mold overflowed where poured.

The reason you don't find them is that the person would save them to remelt and pour more.

I think Pimento has this right. I have some molds used for casting lead head fishing jigs, musket balls, lead bullets, dive weights and similar. The opening to the mold for each item being cast is cone shaped to help feed the hot lead into the mold. Once an item has been cast and the lead has solidified, you open the mold and knock out the item. Once cool, you break or cut off the unwanted portion.
