Accomplished a 'Firsts' today. Half Dime (1853) (updated)

Decided to rty a different site today. I had to drive about 20 miles away to get to it but I had found 5 Indian Head cents there, including a Fattie. A 1962 Indian Head. It is my next oldest coin. This half dime is my oldest. Just proud of it and had to post it. Found a silver Rosie (1962) yesterday and a silver half dime today.

That coin looks to be in excellent condition...very bold strike...not alot of wear for sure...I think I would hang around that spot for awhile...no telling the type coins/artifact's lurking there....

Was the Fatty in that good of shape....

I like any coin dated Civil War period and before.I look at them more as artifact's than coin's when they get back that far...

And there's nothing in the world that makes you connect with history than when an item is 100% dated,,,,

Here's what I like to do on a old coin...[timelines.com]

Read about that year in history then think that coin was circulating around when those event's where happening....Really brings thing's into perspective..

Real nice coin

I found the Indian Heads at that site back last fall. It is yet another carpet of square nails that I had forgotten about since getting the Deus. The Fattie is 1862 and I would say it's in GOOD shape. It is the clearest one of the ones I found there. I think that I read where the fatties had a different mettalic make up than the newer ones. I noticed that most of the newer ones that I find are sometimes so corroded, OR wore thin that they are hard to make out. One of the Indan Heads had a hole bored in it for a necklace. I am looking forward to working this site over with this new detector. It seems to be in it's element there for sure. Last fall, I also found a New York militia button there with the word Excelsior written on it. It was coat size and fatter than normal Eagle I buttons. The back was missing. Thanks for the link. And thanks to the rest of the replies as well.

Yes, the 'white cents' 1856 - 1864 (called 'fatties') do indeed ID MUCH lower on any detector............. as compaired to the newer Indian Head's.
