A buddy Of mine dug this with the Omega...

I think it speaks for it's self....

Dug out of a Conlonial Site here in the South...

Sugar sand ....1795 Half Dime...

Site was pounded to death ...Lucky or the right tool?

Sweet silver Keith.

I guess it depends on how it hit and such. I loved the Omega, but thought the E-Trac was slightly better (though slower recovery wise) on coins. But, for the money, you can't go wrong with the Omega, not to mention the light weight.

So, considering the site, how did the coin respond?

I did not dig it earthman...

Wish I had of....I could of bought a few metal detector's..LOL!!

the coin is worth a serious amount of money....

But it does go to show that no one machien is ever going to get it all...

It takes a certian machine some times to find one certian target.....

Believe me I know that..

I realized you didn't dig it but I wonder if the person who did told you how the "hit" was.

One of my best finds was a rough hit with the CTX in an area I hit hard with the E-Trac. Even though I sold the CTX, it did perform.
As I mentioned in another thread, I hit an area extremely hard with the Omega, finding many coins up to around 500 years old. I went back through with the E-Trac and found a few more and maybe 2 more with the CTX at fringe depths. The Omega more than held its own.

I HOPE THE OWNER DiDN'T DO ANYTHING BUT RINSE IT WITH WATER and didn't wipe the surface with sandy fingers, thus scratching the coin. I'd grade the coin XF45 and if certified that grade by PCGS, the coin would be valued at $6,200.

He had it graded...It came back AU Details...Improperly cleaned...But they did not catch it was dug...So it's a toss up either grade it as environmentally damaged or improperly cleaned...

the tiny surface scratches for the past 200+ years gave the impression of cleaning..

Too bad it was in coastal sandy type soil on that part...

Still real valuable...Real pretty....not sure I could ever part with it..

Stunning....... rare...... and exceptional condition! I'd MUCH rather find that half-dime than any other older Spanish silver coin/cob.

I have found three half dimes over the years, but not that old. It amazes me the shape they're in. That one is a gem. Thanks for the view.

One such coin was found by a club member and most feel it was the rarest find for our area.Half dime from the 1700's indeed an unique find and one never knows whats over the next hill...

About 78,660 1795 Flowing Hair's minted in a span of only two years. A few are lost of which was this one; after 210+ years laying hidden in the sand ... finally rediscovered. That is a thrill.

Also, those that have the bust touching the 1 and 5 in "1795", as this one does, are being offered at higher prices, apparently rarer mintage.

This one sold for $4,600 last year at auction: [coins.ha.com]

The third-party grading firms are very strict. A little gloss or broken patina on a silver coin earns a "cleaned" monikor and is discounted significantly. This coin looks all original from the online pics!

My lord! The odds of finding one of those in that condition....like hitting the lottery. I'd probabely keel over on the spot with a heart attack and have somebody else come along and pry it out of my hands!
