Any tips or tricks with the FZ-12? Pinpoint, CZ settings, Depth...

Wow I had an early one and sold it(gave it away) for $100.....really covers a lot of ground, about the same weight as the Fisher 10.5 but its configuration makes it easier to swing, expect several more inches in depth in most situations not an inch or so with the stock 10.5. Been a while since I used one but I remember it pinpointed very well for a coil its size. Stopped hunting seashores where I used it and well the stock 8 goes as deep as I want to dig so unfortunately I sold it. My only concern now would be if it goes down they haven't made them in years and you would have a pricey coil to hang on the wall but thankfully never heard of any problems with them..

I would test any FZ coil with regard to the narrow nickel window. I believe that these coils are not as consistent as Fisher built coils and a poorly tuned FZ coil might push older (and newer) nickels into "mid-tone", even on a perfectly tuned CZ control box.

I don't think it would be too hard to add a manual potentiometer knob on the side of the CZ control box to fine tune the lower end of the nickel window based on the characteristics of any particular coil.
