Sunray to stop making probes for Minelab detectors
March 21, 2013 07:42PM
I got an email from Windy City Detectors today. I am not advertising for them I am just naming my source.

We have been notified by Sunray that due to increase costs they will no longer be making the probes for Minelab detectors.

They are great probes. A shame to see this happen. If you want a probe now will probably be the time. I see prices going up just like the meters for the Sovereign.

Does ML charge Sunray a certain percentage, and the % became too high for Sunray to pass the added cost to the consumer? I'm not clear on this.

There going to become collecters item's like the FZ-12 Coil !

I don't understand why they just don't raise prices.

I really like the probe on the FBS detectors. It is like having a probe with discrimination setting that matches the detector. Makes finding the high tones in iron easy. It is the only Sunray product that I purchase.
I wish them well........

Makes you wonder if they are going to stop making the e-trac and Safari?

I bet Sunray knows something we dont...

Sovereign connectors dont cost anything more than garrett...So why stop making those...because Minelab does not make them so they figure they wont sell enough to the used detector market...

explorer etrac safari connector's are cheap as the sovereing and garrett and etc...

if they quit making e-trac and safari then there's not enough market as they see it...

makes you wonder..

I just talked with Ralph earlier this week and he never mentioned anything like that....

I'm wondering if there's a threat of a lawsuit looming in the background. There's plenty of Explorers and Etracs to target marketing efforts...

Or simply could be they don't sell all that many for the ml's.

My guess is the garrett probe took some of their market. The s-1probe was awesome on the Sov. We have a ghetto park we call Wino park. It has the most unbelievable dense trash you've ever seen, not kidding. Tons of Thunderbird and Nightrain caps, lol. I have cut back a one square foot flap, and used that probe to clear it out, pulling some nice old coins too.

Speculation, speculation and no facts.

Haha, we have more than a few parks like that here in NJ, Deathray.

Secret is, you gotta hit them early before all the losers "come to" from their drink & drug induced slumbers, lol.

After 10 or 11am, you better be packin if you hunt these spots are ya gotta constantly detect in fear of getting "jacked"...or worse winking smiley

Just like a mailman, a TRUE detectorist gets the job done in snow, sleet & crime ridden areas. Lol

Ripple, anyone?

That is true. Minelab has raised the price of the upper shafts to the point that we would have to charge over $250.00 for the completed X-1 probe. Add to that, that our production costs and parts have also increased and we have been absorbing those costs for a couple of years now. With reduced demand we can no longer purchase parts in the volume that we used to, further increasing our costs. We will continue to honor warranty and other repairs as we are reserving replacement parts for that purpose.

The question is "Are we seeing the end of third party parts?".

The CTX and AT Pro plus the Deus have no third party coils and probes available. We now have chips in coils. The connectors are not available. It seems to me we are at the mercy of the manufacturers. I am not talking about just price either. Everyone would love to see a six inch coil for the Deus and a coil between the stock and 17" for the CTX.

See, now finally the fact. :-)

But why dont they just sell them without mounting and let the people mount them themselvs??? Or have the people send in thier own shafts?? These options seem possible to me. Either way, now they can start concentrating on making a probe for the Vistas hehe.

We may yet see the day when Sunray probes on upper eTrac shafts fetch $456.99 on eBay auctions.

First thing I thought Jace. Something is amiss here...

Well not a fan of the product even though an excellent product as handheld guy myself..

Nice to know they will still repair and honor warranties.

In addendum Sunray makes pricey products that are surely as good or better than anything on market...
