I know the the Gold Bug 2 is the best at finding gold chains and ear rings that other detectors miss.

The down side (and isn't there always a downside?), you end up chasing every tiny bit of aluminum foil all over the place as well.

And theres a LOT of it out there, to be sure.

I was wondering if you were not going to use the GB2 for small jewelry hunting, what would be your second choice?

Or is there no good second choice?

Old whites surfmaster II (not in production anymore) and hard to come by but it was/is killer on tiny/thin gold that 99.9% of all other machines can't see AND it's waterproof to boot.

Whites screwed up discontinuing that one and offering up the Beach Hunter 300 in its place :-/

It was already established on his site that the Vista Gold cannot even touch the GB II in micro gold

Yes the vista gold with the small coil is deadly on the small stuff.

Aaron check the videos put out by our friend Barry. His tests were witnessed by a seasoned detectorist, I forget his name.

Whoops for years I hunted freshwater areas with older land Tesoro's and got some awful small gold chains that other units wouldn't touch. Of course in parks you wouldn't get off your knees but in the water use them in zero disc. and bobbi pins and fish hooks give a ratty sound but gold even micro gold will give a good hit. Again old technology at its finest....

Dan, which older Tesoro are you referring to, the Compadre?

Referring to the older Tesoro notch units prior to U-max...remember in saltwater they are useless...just freshwater....
